DTC P1512 - VARIABLE TUMBLE CONTROL SYSTEM (VTCS), STUCK CLOSED The air intake hose that goes from the air filter/mass airflow sensor to the throttle body they are common to crack. This air leak can cause a lean condition if that checks out ok then the issue is usually a faulty mass air flow sensor .This would need to be checked next.
Usually the actuator valve is stuck closed. These are the most common causes of the P1512 and possible causes are: * ECT sensor malfunction. *
MAF sensor malfunction. * IAT sensor malfunction. * EGR boost sensor
malfunction * TP sensor malfunction. * CKP sensor malfunction * VTCS
solenoid valve malfunction. * VTCS shutter valve stuck closed. * VTCS
shutter valve actuator stuck closed. * Short circuit between PCM and
VCTS solenoid valve. * PCM malfunction.
I would start with the mass air
flow sensor this can cause all these issues. Then the cat. This would be
the next step.
I hope this helped (remember to rate and comment this answer).
according to your information it's faulty mass air flow sensor, check mass air flow sensor first, when the Idle rough just disconnect the air flow sensor wiring socket if it's better than when it's connected it's faulty air flow sensor, mass air flow sensor have fitted between air cleaner housing and throttle body, you can see wiring connector been connect on it you have to turn it anticlockwise and remove it. when you fix it back do the reverse order, if it's faulty replace air flow sensor. is this information helped you?
I had a similar problem with my 1994 S420.
Before taking it to the shop check the following:
Distributor covers, Rotors and Spark Plugs. That's what my car needed. Before I did it two "specialized" MB mechanics wanted to replace the engine wiring harness ($1,000.00) and the other wanted to replace Air mass sensor, throttle valve actuator ($2,000.00) I hope that's all you need.
check your main harness wire. The harness wire becomes brittle and will eventually short circuit your car. Stalling and hard starting is the initial symptom. If not replaced soon, your car will smoke and eventually affect your computer box
yoy need to change both the Air Mass Sensor and throttle valve actuator to eliminate this problem. The actuator is pretty pricey but thats the ONLY solution i'm afaraid.
changed different sensorscrank and different air sensors mechanic had it numerous times it works 4 a while and then stalls while driving and won't start fed up 94 c220
