2001 nissan maxima overheating problem persists

My temperature gauge was moving up and down (below 1/2 to 3/4). I had radiator replaced 8 months ago and fan motor replaced several months ago. so we replaced the thermostat and it went to 2/3 the next day and the overflow resevoir was full while hot almost like it was boilling. it went down but i'm driving to vegas for my kids competition and i'm afraid to take it on the trip. i heard about these air pockets on several sites and it may need bleeding. i'm a 48 year old single mom and don't have a savings for these kind of things. any suggestions??? please help:)

It sounds like the the thermostat that was replaced is probably faulty. This being the cheapest and easiest to do I would start there. I can't reply about the air pockets. I have never heard of that before.

The heater on my 02 mondeo takes about 30 minutes to start working properly, if I put the blower on too soon the temperature gauge shoots down, any ideas?

It sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. The thermostat is closed until the coolant in the engine gets heated up. Once it get hot, the coolant is cycled to the radiator to be cooled by air passing thru it. The coolant that was in the radiator is cycled to the engine where it is heated - or more properly termed, is used to cool the engine to keep it from overheating and seizing. The heated coolant is used to provide heat for the cabin in cold months.

Heres a video showing the job on a 2001 Mondeo and should be pretty similar job.

1996 nissan altima no cabin heat, new radiator, flushed and filled, top hose hot, lower hose cold, newer thermostat checked good

HI Anon.
Remove your radiator cap (WHEN ENGINE IS COLD), run the motor and let it warm up a minute or two, have someone rev the engine a little while looking into the radiator. If the water goes down and/or you see the water moving, your water pump is good. If not this means that your water pump is bad and is not moving enough water through the system. Try Removing your thermostat and run the engine without it. Keep checking the radiator hoses to see if they are the same temperature. If they are not the same temperature the water pump is bad. If they are the same temperature your thermostat is more than likely the culprit. Hope this helps.

Temperature gauge in nissan frontier goes from medium to low randomly, also off and on roaring sound coming from what seems to be the fan while running.

This is an indication of air or gas bubbles in the cooling system, it can be that the system is low on coolant due to a leak (have a cooling system pressure test performed) or that you have a leaking engine cylinder head gasket. I would also replace the thermostat just to rule it out as a cause, it could be sticking and causing the rapid swings in engine temperature.

This is typical of imports to cool the motor down when the car is not moving,as no cool air is entering the engine bay

well the temperature control gage is connected to the engine block and consists of 1 wire for the reading of the motor heat either the sensor is going bad or you need to check your coolant levels in the radiator make sure the engine is cool before opening the thermostat cap to the radiator so not to get burnt ...also make sure the wire itself is not grounding out on the engine block to give the gage to give such a readout look to the engine and usually on the drivers side lower the plug wires you should see a plug with a wire coming from it ensure the wire is not rubbing on anything .

1989 Toyota Land Cruiser overheating- REPLACED ENTIRE COOLING SYS

Do a cylinder leak down test. Hook up a airline to each spark plug hole. Bring each cyclinder to tdc and listen for air leak. Possibly in the radiator. You can also reverse the process by doing a radiator leak down test. If you hear bubbling in the radiator bad head gasket. Remove and replace head gasket.
