Question about 1990 Saab 900 Hatchback

Will not fire.

We finally got this car to crank but it will not fire. New spark plugs new ignition coil, new spark plug cables, new fuel filter new fuel pump, new ignition lock old ignition switch as the new one was DOA dead on arrival. I am so close to this thing starting but i cannot figure out as to why it wont. It has a quarter tank of fuel with octane boosters stabil and seafoam to try and clean out the injectors which i think might be a possiblity, the fuel pump tested at 1.7 volts and i dont think that is enough.

I have three possibilities here and they are the ECU, the injectors or the pump. I dont think the pump is bad, i just dont think it is getting enough voltage. Any suggestions?
I can get the car to start and run off of starter fluid but that is it. it seems like it wants to keep going but cant. I also noticed the radiator fans do not turn on? possibly bad sensors? please anyone help. I want to get this car running very badly.

Actually it sounds like your crank position sensor may be faulty.

Here's a quote from amy Chilton's manual for 1980-1987.

"Several types of fuel filters are used. One is located in the fuel tank of all the vehicles and is part of the fuel guage assembly. Second is a sealed paper element, in-line unit; mechanical system- located on the engine (above the fuel pump) or electrical system- located in front of the fuel tank. Third is a paper element, in-line fuel filter/vapor separator, housed in a fuel resevoir. Normally, the in-tank filter does not require changing. If it does, the fuel tank must be removed. "
This thing you describe sounds like the typical Chrysler in-line filter of its day. It is nothing more than the same generic in-line plastic see-thru filter you buy for your lawn mower except in the 70's and 80's it was covered in metal and had a Chrysler part number. A lot of guys added an extra filter in those days, it wasn't the best system. I would remove the outlet line and turn the fuel pump on, see if you get fuel. Replace if needed.

Pull off the coil ignition cable at the distributor and check for spark coming out of coil when cranking engine over. Use a heavy rag or glove to hold the wire 1/4 inch from a metal ground. Should see a strong blue spark when cranking to verify ignition is good. If no spark, check for battery voltage to coil on the coil primary. If you have current to the coil, suspect a bad coil, ignition module, crank position sensor, or cam position sensor, or pcm. The coil, ignition module, and sensors can be tested before replacing.

It need to have fuel and sparks to start.
Have you check to see if there is spark after all new parts?
If there is spark, then check if it has fuel.

To check spark, hold 1 spark plug touching engine chasis while cranking, if there is no spark then problem with the coils or ignition module.
To check fuel, after cranking several times but no firing, take out a spark plug to see if it wet.
If it is dry then no fuel. For this, problem could be following in order:
-Fuel filter
-Fuel pump
-Fuel pressure regulator
- Fuel injectors
- Fuel injector module.
Need to go through troubleshooting step by step before changing the parts to correct a problem. Good luck in finding a good mechanic to test before spending money in costly partts replacement.
