Question about 1998 Ford Expedition

Faulty side air bags

I have a 2003 Ford Expedtion. It is great shape. I was driving on the turnpike last night and my side air bags deployed for no reason. I almost had a wreck trying to get stopped. I was very shook up and scared to death as to what could have happened. Talked to the Ford service center today and they said there was not a warranty for this occurance and they were not going to fix it free. I feel like there is a default in my air bag system for them to go off for no reason. I also feel like they should fix them. How can I get Ford to warranty the air bags? Please let me know what I should do. Thanks, Debbie from Oklahoma

2002 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer had both side air bags deploy for no reason on April16, 2009. Got hit in the head by the driver side one.

Have contacted Ford. Still no answer to a resolution to this problem.

Obviously Ford has a problem they should be taking care of and standing behind the customers on this one. Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed.

I have a 2004 Expedition - The side air bags deployed in January - I took it to the local dealship in Fairabanks, AK, they had never seen or heard of air bags deploying like this. At the time they deployed it was about 40 below zero. Contacted Ford Co. They would not do anything because my vehicle was out of warranty. I then contacted my insurance company. They sent to me a mechnic shop for evalustion. The insurance company would not cover the cost because it was a defect in the air bag sensor. I am now stuck with a vehicle that has no air bags at all. if anyone comes up with a solution let me no.

Oh so sorry about that. Really they would not fix it but do you know that you ought to be servicing the air-bags periodically?

Many a lot of people do not know. Try to fix it at your expence if they wont take up responsibility that there's a malfunction.

Take care and drive carefully.

I think the reason why it happened was because there was no heatsheild protecting the airbags between the exhaust and airbag. on my expo the bag is leaking because of this reason it just causes the rubber the dry up. anyway i have to replace my bag soon and i have found some websites that sells them cheap. they are easy to replace if you know what you are doing

Air bag deployment 2006 ford escape

You can still drive the car, just cut the air bag off. There is a lot more in repairing a deployed SRS than just replacing the steering wheel.

My ex husband was in a roll over car accident in his 2006 ford fusion going 70 mph and his air bags didnt deploy. is there a recall on those or does he have a possible case for his injuries?

Front air bags are not designed to deploy in side impact, rear impact or rollover crashes. There are several reasons why your air bag may not have deployed during a crash. The first reason is that perhaps your crash is not the type of accident where air bag deployment would be helpful. For frontal air bags, this includes many, but not all, side impacts, rear impacts and rollovers. This category also includes minor accidents in which the driver and front passenger (if there was one) did not suffer any significant injuries requiring medical treatment. Many people do not realize there are a lot of side air bags that do not deploy during a rollover accident, even when the vehicle rolls onto its side. That is because those side air bags do not include an appropriate crash sensor that can detect rollover crashes.

How to replace a ignition lock cylinder in a 99 ford expedtion

I believe you are talking about the cylinder where the key goes that starts the truck. If so, you will need to go to autozone and borrower there steering wheel removing tool. When I did mine it took about 2 hours to do. They have a step by step instruction on how to do it that they can print off. Its not hard to do, I could probably do it in 30 minutes or so now. You have to disconnect the battery to prevent air bag deployment.

Airbag light flashes four or five time then pauses and repeats.

The automatic air bag sensor is tested EVERYTIME to start the car/van. Your system has detected a failure in the Air Bag deployment sensor. It is not dangerous... but the air bag with the faulty sensor will not deploy in an accident.

My airbag light just started blinking in my 90 taurus and won't stop, i hope it don't deploy while i'm driving.

problem may be the clock spring under the steering wheel .you need to have a shop c/k it out . the air bag light will not make the air bag deploy , its telling you the air bag is inoperative
