I have a 1994 Mazda MPV 4WD, we have replaced the brake lights and the brake light switch but the brake lights still do not work. All of the other lights work the back up light, the tail lights they all work but when you step on the brakes the brake lights do not come on. A friend said it may be an electrical problem .. can anyone help???

I do not know if there is 12 volts to the light switch. I took it to Autozone last night and they said that the model I have was to old to connect to their machine to run a check but they looked at it and said there was nothing wrong with the lights and we just put in a new brake light switch, replaced the relays and put in new fuses so they said it may be an electrical problem.

You did not mention if you checked the fuse or not.

You may want to get a test light and see if you have power to the switch and if it is working properly.

The brake lights do not work on my c4 2005 when the headlights are on. Can you help

check for a bad earth on the lights. It appears that when you have brake lights then their earth point is working but when the lights are switched on then that earth point is faulty and the power is earthing out through the brake lights which turns them off (opposing current flow)

If you are saying the brake lights will not turn off, check the brake light switch on the pedal.

2004 mazda mpv. suddenly unable to shift from park into any gear. what happened?

Probable culprit would be the electric solenoid that releases the gear shift linkage when you apply the brake pedal. Since it's electric, a dead battery will cause the same result. Check to see if your brake lights are working. If not try replacing your brake light switch as this also gets power to the above mentioned solenoid.

This is a safety feature to prevent children from accidentally putting a car in gear.

Good luck!

WHAT IS A BTN FUSE ON A 1992 MAZDA MPV . IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE HEADLIGHTS OR DIMMER SWITCH I THINK

BTN stands for Body/Tail/iNterior. It protects the HAZARD, ANTENNA, ROOM, STOP, ILLUM and ABS fuses in the cabin fuse box, which in turn protect the hazard lights, antenna, ECU memory, brake lights, tail lights2.gif, ABS, power locks, clock, horn, illumination, stereo, HVAC, interior lights and alarm. smile.gif __________________

ABS light flashes on dash

As far as the dome lights and the fuse they run on or where they are located I do not know. I would say check under the driver instrument panel, or under the hood on the left side ( as you are looking at it). It is highly likely that the lights run on one circuit. Your anti lock brake light is another matter altogether. When that light comes on it is because the sensor beside the brake has indicated an irregularity with the brakes that could impact braking performance in the event of a sudden stop. Most brake shops do a free brake check so if you are a do it yourselfer then you can discover the problem with that option
