Question about 1994 Dodge Caravan

1994 Dodge Caravan transmission

I purchased a 1994 Dodge caravan las week. I was told it had been sitting for ov er a year. I checked the diagnostics without error 12 and 55. when I put in a new battery I had noticed that I could not hear the fuel pump. so I replaced it (it was bad) I was able to start it. It has about 58,000 miles on it. I changed the oil and checked all the fluids. The transmission did not have a drop in it. I crawled under the van and had noticed the tranny leak was comming from a hole in the pan. I replaced the seal and pan and filled it with 4 quarts as indicated in the haynes repair manual. The van does not register on the dipstick that here is any tranny fluid. where could the fluid be going? I know that the torque converter should have 8 quarts but that should not be empty

you are correct. there is a leak coming from an oring at the end of the dipstick and a leak at the radiator. easy fix. The van is driving like a charm

You should add enough fluid to register on the stick. Just add 1 quart at a time and check the stick.

Don't assume that the torque converter is completely full.

Once you are up to the proper level, test to see if it goes forward and backward OK.

Hopefully the transmission is OK after being possibly run with no fluid in it.

Let the vehicle sit and idle and look on the ground for leaks, watch for the hoses that go to the radiator as they are prone to leak sometimes.

I have a 2008 dodge grand caravan and the check engine light came on, when I had it checked it said ers low voltage or low power I don't remember.

Putting the code in with your question would be much better than three different phrases. If it really is an electronic range selector, it sounds like problems with the transmission. If it came back, it means your transmission needs to be inspected, and repaired if necessary. If you don't, you may find yourself in 'limp-in' mode at the worst possible time. In this condition, the transmission controller puts it in second gear and it will not shift up.

I have a 1994 dodge grand caravan with a 3.8 v6 the transmission get stuck in second gear after driving for 30 min was told it could be a speed sensor

The speed sensor could indeed be preventing the van from switching gears. Have this checked into or you could do it yourself by reading this article and following the link it provides for testing. http://www.engine-light-help.com/speed-sensor.html

Hope this helps:)

Transmission 94, 4 cyl 2.5l engine Dodge caravan. started bogging down going into first at stop sighns, then wouldn't respond at all. engine runs. after sitting a bit, it did go into 1st. thought it might...

The sensors and solenoids are found inside the transmission which would cause your problem.

Maybe try the $100 fix by having it flushed filled with new fluid. But, if this doesn't work, then a rebuild or replacement transmission will be necessary.

Good luck on this repair.

1994 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.0 V6 Runs fine for about 10 min after that engine bogs down like it is not getting gas. I have replaced the fuel filter, map sencor, and fuel pressure regulator as was suggested...

Have you put a pressure gauge on and then drive to see if pressure drops. If it does it is likely the pump. Sometimes these problems lead to it being the computer.

How do i change the drivers side transaxle in a 1994 dodge carava

To change the CV axle, you have to remove the lower ball joint, remove the axle nut, remove from hub, (you can pull the strut out far enough to do this), and the axle will pull out. Install in reverse order. Sounds like you were trying to remove the transmission.
