2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo shifting when it doesnt need too.

When at cruising speed 55-70 it seems that the transmission will shift between overdrive and drive continually. It kinda feels like the transmission is slipping but it isn't, doesnt do it all the time, and it only does it when in this speed, or while in overdrive, may not even be transmission any help would be appreciated. thanks john

Have you checked the trans fluid? Has to be checked with engine running in neutral. If its good you will need to bring it to a transmission shop. Good luckHowie

When I engage the cruise control is holds speed but rmp surges periodically around 2-300 rpm.

It could be your transmission trying to find the right gear it will jump around on diffrent road surfaces and going up hills/down hills. It is usaully noticable on cruise because it is at a constant speed and your thinking why would it need to shift. Sometimes it doesnt even really shift the gear its so inbetween it just jumps back really fast.

Eratic shifting of gears at speeds of 55 to 75

I would check the transmission fluid level and color, should be a nice clear red color. You may need to have the filter replaced. Possibly some internal transmission problem also.

Transmission not shifting

its the TCM transmission computer system. there is a computer inside the console shifting unit, one on top of the steering column just behind the carpet. they will tell you to replace the computer. but which one is the issue. replace the small one at the shifter first. then if that doesnt fix it then replace the big one under the dash. the dealer wants 500 for the part alone at the shifter, and 800 for the big one with installation. its easy to install dont pay them for that. instructions are on the internet. you need to take the car back. EVERY GC has transmission electronics problems.

get a filter and fluid change in the transmission.
that 5 speed automatic is tricky.

do a code scan and see if there is a vacuum leak telling it to shift too late
