Question about 2005 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Intermmitently runs rough.

My daughter has a 2005 dodge caravan 3.3l and at times it runs rough and feels like it wants to stall. She has had a complete tune up done but problem still persists. This problem can occur whether engine is hot or cold. The problem can suddenly clear and the van will run fine. Very frustrating. The rough idle also feels like its missing. Could it be the fuel pump/filter assembly? The van has almost 100k on it. What area could I check when this is occurring? She took it back to her mechanic but the van was running OK so he could not locate problem. He says she may have to wait until it gets real bad and is failing when he is there. My daughter feels the van is not reliable and may fail at the worst time.

Use a lower viscosity engine oil on your daughter's van and you will see the difference.

2005 caravan stalls when at stoping

Check the compression, all cylinders should be about 125 lbs, If some are off you may have bent some valves when the timing belt broke, the pistons
will hit the valves & bend them, If so, it is best to replace the head
I did this before no fun.
Good luck.

2005 caravan. replacing battery. Is it just a straight exchange or does the computer have to be reset by a dealer. Can I do it myself?

yes you can but if you have a security radio you will need the code for it to work some cars need to go through a computer relearn mode so they run a bit rough for a few minutes or might stall a few times till it heats up and driven around the block hope this helps

The van stalls without notice at times when ready

This sounds like a classic case of either a dirty/faulty IAC (Idle Air Control) motor or a sticking EGR valve. If you can prevent it from stalling by keeping your fot on the gas slightly and it always restarts right away and runs good when restarted, I'd suspect the IAC first. If it "chugs"when stopping and will run rough even with a little (not a lot) of gas pedal and/or it runs rough when restarted, I'd suspect the EGR.

Rough idle, stalling, cruise control out

Sounds like you have a vacuam leak.
Check the vacuom hose to the cruise canister........and work yuor way back to the source. I'll bet you find a hose off. Also, listen for any "hissing" sounds (obviously, not the carb).
Bet that solves ALL your probs.

2005 Dodge Magnum w/out hemi stalling

I have a 2005 Magnum and was also having this problem. Stalled out a few times and continued to idle rough and feel like it was going to die when I would slow down. At times it would feel like I would get a hesitation and then a surge. Engine light would go on for a day or so, then go out for a few days. First time I took it in, the dealership told me that it was a broken seal (I don't know where), but they replaced it and it continued to happen. The second time I took it to a mom & pop shop, and they told me that it was the oxygen sensor/altimeter, replaced it (only a $35 part), and I haven't had a problem since. That was 6 months ago. Hope this helps...
