Question about Chevrolet 1500
Yesterday I was driving on the freeway and had to do a lot of quick accelerating, now my truck will not click into the reverse gear and will not reverse, if it is on a decline it will go a little ways due to momentum, but that is it, when i push on the gas (in reverse) it does nothing but rev the engine. I checked the automatic transmission fluid, but it seems like there is enough, although I cannot figure out how to put more in if I need to. The coolant seems like it could use a little top off but the truck has not seemed to be overheating...I think I may have stripped the gear by trying to make the truck accelerate faster than it could on the freeway? Not sure how to fix this problem or if I will have to take it to a shop to get fixed. I would like to fix it myself if I can. Help please.
My chevy cavalier wont go into reverse and in park it wants to go forwards, could this be from a broken transmission band?

Transmission fluid fill should be on the right hand side of the engine by the firewall. You did not state what year your vehicle is, or transmission type, but if it isn't the fluid, then change the filter & see if that solves the problem, otherwise it it probably the low/reverse band if early vehicle & expensive fix.
