1996 Saab 900S with OBD code P0411 - check engine light on

I haven't determined exactly what's wrong with it yet. My question is, once I fix it, will the code automatically clear out of the computer, or do I have to have it cleared out using the OBD scan tools that do that?

Once you fix it, the car has to go through several drive cycles. For my VW, it has to go through 3. This involves starting up cold (car has been sitting for some time), idling with AC on for a few minutes, getting over 55, coasting to a stop, getting over 55 and coasting to a stop again. It should take at least 3 days to clear.
-or-
Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes. The problem with this is that the computer has to relearn some things, but should be fine. If the problem still exists, the light will return after 1 drive cycle.
-or-
Have it cleared with an OBD scan tool, which shops such as AutoZone, will do for free.

How do the obd 2 clear the check engine light on a 1995 Saab

  • A 1995 Saab 900 still used the ISO 9141 not OBD II so an OBD II will serve no purpose to your vehicle. Saab 900 did not use OBD II until 1996. If you want the check engine light to go away on this vehicle you have to fix the problem and then the battery disconnected for a couple minutes and the light should stay away if all is OK.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

The check engine light is on my 1995 Saab 900s. I can not find a techician with the correct scanner. How can I turn off the light?

There are three ways to reset a check engine light.

1. Disconnect the battery, wait approximately 30 minutes, reconnect the battery. This resets the cars computer which also reset the check engine light. On newer OBD (on-board diagnostic) compliant vehicles this usually does not work. See step 2.

2. Reset using an OBD II reader. When you hook an OBD II code reader up to your vehicle, you can reset the computer using the code reader.

3. Fixing the problem. Generally the check engine light comes on for a reason. Usually it is emission related (sensors, gas cap) or electrical (faulty wiring). In this case the way to reset the check engine light is to fix the problem

I have a 1996 saab 900S 2.3L with a check engine light obd2 code p0341 camshaft position sensor out of range. I am told this engine does not have a cam position sensor but that saab uses this code for...

I also have a saab 900 s with the 2.3 L. I started throwing the same code. I found out from the Hanes manual that the CMP sensor is integrated into the distributor on this model. Which explains why the distributor costs so much. You might want to check your distributor out and makes sure their is no oil in the cap and that the black electric plug is fit on correctly. If it's okay just watch for rough idle (that's what mine started doing), unfortunately it looks like if your cam position sensor needs to be replaced you have to replace the entire distributor.

What does code 1-p0650 mean?

P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit Malfunction

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel. When the ignition switch is turned ON without engine running, MIL will light up. This is a bulb check. When the engine is started, MIL should go off. If MIL remains on, the on board diagnostic system has detected an engine system malfunction.

Possible Causes:
  • Harness or connectors (MIL circuit is open or shorted.)
  • MIL bulb may be faulty
