First thing to check is your fuel to the carb. you may have a bad fuel pump. remove the fuel line on the carb and put it in a cup or bowl. crank the vehicle for a little wyle and see if gas comes out. if not it's likely the fuel pump or the fuel filter is very clogged. if fuel does come out then you may need to clean your carb. good luck!

Not getting gas to carb


It could be. Since you have a carburetor, you must have a mechanical fuel pump on the engine? Only some imports with carburetors had an electrical pump.

If your filter is in the line just before the carburetor, take the line off at the filter, then crank the engine over to see if the pump is working. Mechanical fuel pumps will pump gas when the engine is cranking or running. Use a jar or can to catch the gas. If pump is working, fuel will come out in small spurts. It's not under high pressure- carbs don't need high pressure. If no gas comes out of the line, you probably need a new fuel pump. If the pump is working, it could be the filter, but could also be the needle valve and seat at the carb's fuel inlet. Sometimes they get stuck closed and won't let gas into the carburetor.

How do you adjust idling


Idling is adjusted differently on different vehicles. There are diesel engines, and two main types of injection, either from a high pressure pump to the injectors, or the so-called common rail injectors where injection is supplied by a high pressure pump but controlled by electronic signals.
Gasoline (petrol) engines have either carburetor systems where the carburetor turns the fuel into a gas before it enters an intake manifold which supplies the intake valves with combustible gas, or a common fuel injector which does basically the same, but the gas is produced by a single computer controlled sprayer. The final way of getting gas into the cylinder is to use injectors similar to diesel injectors, such as the VW Jetronic or K-tronic system.
Idling is adjusted on most engines by controlling the amount of gas which is allowed by a butterfly valve to pass into the intake system.
On an old style carburetor there is an air needle valve at the base of the carburetor which must first be adjusted to get the correct gas/air mixture necessary for the engine to idle, then the butterfly stop screw, which is also mounted on the base of the carburetor, but which is open to see. This will physically open or close the butterfly valve to increase or decrease the engine rpm.

Why is gas not coming out in my carburetor?


If you have a carburetor there is an inlet screen in the fitting where the fuelline goes into the carb. Or the float or needle valve is stuck.

Sometimes the pin that holds the float into position shifts when the carb is turned on its side or upside down. It simply is not designed to get into this position unless you rollover your vehicle.

Another problem is the fuel. This new fuel will make the gaskets swell inside the old carburetors. The fuel passages then block. The new Blue gasket rebuild kits can tolerate this new fuel, but the old black gaskets cannot.

Car will start only when gas is poured into the carburetor and then immediately stops.


There may be a little screen filter inside the fitting where gas enters the carburetor, might have got plugged. The needle valve just inside the carb whereby the float controls the entrance of gas, may have got stuck in its seat. Or the seat, where gas enters the carb., may have something lodged there.
If you are pretty sure the pump's volume and pressure is correct, (it would be low pressure, like around 5 lbs., and you check volume by timing how long it takes to fill a specified amount-sorry, I don't know or remember any specs anymore- but anyway, you must have taken the line off at carb to check for gas to carb-if it squirted out at a good clip when it was cranked over, it likely passed the test-hows that for accuracy? lol.), but as I was going to say, if you have gas to carb., and no amount of pumping the throttle lets any gas through, you will want to take the carburetor off and have a minor rebuild kit installed, just all new gaskets and seals, rubber or leather parts that get old and leaky, new needle valve and seat.
If you want to just check the bowl inside for gas in it, and the needle valve, too-it can get pretty tricky, but you could take off the top of the carburetor, called the air horn, held by its several screws, and tricky because you have to unhook the choke rod, maybe anything else for getting the top off...If you take it off, you will want a new gasket there...I recommend just taking the carburetor off. Has this car ever sat for a long time? The carb. would need a good and thorough cleaning of every little passage to bring it back to like new condition..
Good luck. It might be something simple, like a bad needle valve, or a filter, wow, what a slam dunk that would be. Wouldn't even have to pull the carb off.

I have a 1991 GEO Tracker that's not getting gas in the carb...the gas is up to the carb but is not going in to the carb.


Disconnect the carburetor from the gas line, and rebuild it, blowing out the jets with compressed air, and adjusting the float so that it will allow gas to flow into the carburetor bowl.

Some one played a bad joke on me they put antifrezee in my gas tank and what to do to get out


Take to a garage and you will soon find out that "bad joke" is the wrong name for this. All gas must be removed and gas tank dropped and cleaned. you can only hope that that will fix it. Fuel pump, line and injectors may also need attention.

Car has fuel pressure and spark but still won't start-why?


Check your carburetor and the air filter element. Without the air filter out, you can see gas coming out of the carburetor jets as you let somebody start your engine. Gas must get out of it, if your engine has to start. No gas--- get your carburetor jets cleaned. Then, replace your carburetor. Air filter must be free from sludge, otherwise get a replacement..Get this done, and send in your e-mail.

I have 1986 winnebago 454 chev it isn't getting any gas to carb,


The mechanic should check the fuel lines or gas hose from the tank going to the carburetor and from carburetor going to the engine. and also check on the first or primary filter ,the secondary filter, the spray nozzle assembly and the carburetor . if there is a dirt it should be cleaned if there is a spare parts that is worn out it should be replace and if there is a corroded parts then clean it also .After it then also check if there is a loose connection of the hose then reconnect the connection of the fuel lines or gas hose should be tighten that it will not spill gas.But still don't forget to check the screws or the bleeder screws of the carburetor check if there is a dirt and if there is a worn out screw's or bleeder screws .if there is then clean it with a clean gas if there is a worn out replace it. the throttle should also be check if it is been stock there fore you have to repair it if worn out already then replace it.If the carburetor is dirty gas can't pass to the engine normally or some times no gas is going to the engine.That is why you should clean it or replace the worn out parts . But then you have also to check the gas that you are using to your car. If the gas is diluted or dirty then it can be the cause of the problem. Change the gas and buy or get a clean gas that is not diluted or dirty because sometimes dirty gas or fuel can give malfunctioning to the carburetor assembly.
