Car will not start. please help.

I change my fuel filter. flushed the fuel lines and changed the spark plugs. it drove great the first day after and a bit rough on the second day. felt like the lines were clogged again. i parked the car and when i tried to restart it the engine wont start. i turn the key and it feels like it wants to turn on but it wont. feels like the battery is dead but power works fine. it cranks but no start up.

clogged with gunk from fuel tank. about a month ago i put in some gumout fuel injector cleaner. i was driving real fast on the freeway last week and didnt realize i had over used the gas i had but my fuel gauge meter didnt lower till exited the freeway and stopped. the needle went to the e. then i pressed on the gas pedal and it sort of felt like it was runing out of gas completely. i parked the car then after work went straight to the gas station and filled the whole tank up. i drove it home and as i exited the freeway the gas petal felt like the gas wasnt going even as i pushed the pedal all the way in. so i went and got the lines flushed and the mechanic said my fuel filter was very dirty.

yesterday i called the guy and told him i was having the same problem and he said that it was the filter again because there was probably still gunk coming out the lines. hetold me to come in to change it again. i changed it myself last night because when i tried going home from work thats when the car would not start. after changeing it the fuel filter i changed looked fine but still put the new one in. but still the car would not start.

Well, after working across the street from a High end import shop for a number of years and watching the way a particular brand usually entered their shop, we now call three guys with their hands on the trunk, pushing; "the lotus position"....Assume the position!
Some of the guys now joke that the car must be a "hybrid" :-)

On the fuel rail on top of the engine, usually next to the pressure regulator, is a test port with a cap on it. It looks like a big shrader valve from a tire. You can let fuel out of it just like releasing air from a tire. Have someone turn on the ignition while you press the pin in on the valve, have a rag ready, fuel should shoot out for two seconds when the ignition is first turned on.

Have you checked to see if you are getting fuel at the fuel rail? That will tell you if the fuel lines are clogged up again. Rick

Unfortunately it really sounds like the fuel pump has died. I would check the fuel pressure before replacing it, but I would put money on it right now.

Why did you have to flush the lines, what were they "clogged" with?

    check the fuel pressure.

for sheeps sake is the engine turning over?

Your post is very confusing to me, it cranks or it doesn't crank? crank to a mechanic means the starter spins the engine over.

Ck the crank position sensor. It's on the front of ehgine at the crank pully. If there seems to be a fuel problem, ck the maf sensor. first sensor out of air cleaner. good luck

B&s 22hp engine won't start

Hi Charles:
I'd start by checking the spark plug condition and function.
Wet........... no spark
Dry............ no fuel
Check for spark anyway. Hot and blue.
Try priming carb with a squirt of gas.
Drain and flush carb. You may need to remove and thoroughly clean if gummed up.

1977 ford 400 has no spark. Went from running well to loosing power to no spark

One thing you did not mention is the brain box for the ignition which is usually mounted on the fender.
Was it changed ? There is also a pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor that could have failed.

My 1991 Audi 80 will not start, engine cranks

Sounds to me like you may have left the air temp sensor or something electronic disconnected - Distributor - MAF sensor - go back and check and make sure that there's not an electrical pigtail somewhere hanging off - a vacuum leak wouldn't keep it from starting unless it were major - and your AUDI is mechanical injection I think - so fuel pull isn't a problem - check those connectors - let me know??? Thanks
