Crazy Electrical Problem in 2005 PT Cruiser

It all started about 5 months ago with the trunk not opening with the button on the hatch- could only open it with a key. Then about 2 months ago the oil light would come on, but turn off by me just restarting the car. The auto guy said the oil was fine. Then the remote would only open one of the door locks -various lock each time. Then the key won't come out of the ignition sometimes. I have to move the shifter a few times or at least push the button on top of the shifter to hear the click that releases the key. And now yesterday, the trunk kept popping open by itself! I would get out of the car, close it again and after about 30seconds, it popped again. Finally I gave up but as I drove I could hear it clicking to pop it open again and again even though it was already open. Then I figured that if I locked the doors, it would stop doing it. I was right on that one. Also, the eject button on the CD player stopped working a few days ago. Good thing my favorite CD is stuck in there! If I push the eject button the CD player turns off and goes to the radio. The cd plays fine, just won't eject.

Either wire harness problems or you got a so called lemon
One of the first books of Ralph Nader about auto industry.

Had a Hyundai like that 27 years ago. Until I took it totally apart and re-assembled it myself. 2 years ago bought a Piaggio 45 cc motorbike, same story. Took that apart one night and put it together as should be.

There is a emergency release on the left rear seat latch that allows you when pulled to push the seat open to gain access that way, not through the trunk hatch

Yes, I have a suggestion: diagnose the problem with your door lock actuator or the door lock actuator circuits to your trunk.

2005 Buick Rendezous rear hatch will not open with touchpad but will open when you push the rear button on the keyless remote

If the remote opens the rear hatch your problem is likely the button on the tailgate itself. I replaced mine on my 2005 about 3 months ago for the same fault. One problem you may have replacing the button could be that the screws are corroded and difficult top remove. Other than that it is a pretty easy fix.

The hatch door latch on my 2005 PT Cruiser works sometimes and other times only with the key. The problem didn't start until the soft pad that covers the latch started coming loose.

Please remove the paddings and see if the cable is stuck into it. If so when the lock is actuated the lock could be caught into it and not allowing to disengage.
open the latch and check this link , clean and set. It will work as you can test it before closing. Hope you try. Good day.
