Haynes lists the entire procedure for setting the position of the cams etc. Positioning of these is critical...If off by even a slight amount the valves WILL strike the pistons and destroy the engine. DO NOT use any parts made by SA Gear...They have no quality control and will deny any claim made against them. Make sure that the chain guides are in good condition and that the chain tensioner is operating properly.

Do you have a diagram for 2003 saturn timing belt

The 2.2 liter engine uses colored links on the timing chain to align with the marks on the gears. You just have to rotate the engine to where the copper chain link is up on the upper right side of the intake can gear--aligned to the INT diamond on the gear. Then the silver link should be down at about 5 O-Clock on the crankshaft timing mark. The other silver link should then be aligned to the mark on the exhaust cam sprocket. See picture below.

For the 3.0 liter engine, there are marks on the belt that line up with marks on the gears. The book calls out special tools to hold the cam sprockets in alignment while the belt is put on. There is also a special tool to lock the belt onto the crankshaft sprocket. See pictures below.
Please let me know if you have questions.

Could you let me know where the timing marks are for a Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.9 DDiS

check around the inside (towards the block) edge or crank shaft pulley by the lower passenger side of the engine. Otherwise it will be by that pulley on the bloc, those are the only laces I've known them to be. Hope it helps

I have a 1993 jeep grand cherokee 4.0l and need a diagram for the timing chain links. i was told that there is to be 15 links between marks and then told 20. need help please.thanks

I don't have a diagram I can post, but once you install the new chain and have the two timing marks pointing toward each other, then turn the Crankshaft around twice and see if the two timing marks still line up. Remember, the crankshaft turns two times for every one time the camshaft turns.

I understand the 15 vs. 20, but that's neither here nor there. What the Factory Service Manual states is there should be 15 "pins" between the timing marks when the timing chain is set up properly. (?) The links you speak of aren't what you're counting...it's the pins in the chain. In other words, for each link of the Timing Chain, there are two pins, holding it in place...or a total of 48 pins on the length of the entire timing chain. Personally? When I install a timing chain, I rotate the crankshaft around twice to see if the timing marks still match up, and before putting everything back together, I start the Engine for a brief few seconds thereby knowing after reassembling everything, the Engine WILL Start.

If you're still concerned about the 15 pin thing, stop by your local Dealership and look in the Factory manual in Section 9 (Engine), Page 36 for a picture of the 15 so-called "chain-pins."

Hope this helps,

Have a 94 cavalier 2.2 liter,timing chain

Install the cam sprocket, timing chain, and timing chain cover. Make sure the dot on the crankshaft gear is pointing towards the center of the Camshaft gear bolt. Make sure the hole in the Camshaft gear is pointing towards the center of the crankshaft. Be sure to remove the nail holding the chain tensoner back, before installing the timing cover The round hole in the cam gear is the alignment mark
