left front popping. already relaced hub assembly. - 8002ae8b.gif The top is a 216. The bottom one is a 248. Your option's list calss it something different so I don't know which it is. It sounds like you've got a problem with the u-joint. They're easy to check. If you see a lot of bright orange rust around them, they're bad. Also, put the truck in 4 wheel drive, make sure the front axle engages, and grab the front driveshaft and turn it back and forth sharply while watching the u-joint. If it's bad you'll see the axle side roate a little bit but not the wheel side.

I know this sounds stupid, but did you remove the cotter key and the nut from the hubs flange on the outside? This is what keeps it linked to the axle splines the other bolts you removed keep the bearing /hub assembly tied to the front suspension. This answer is not meant to be insulting to you. Just a reminder. Some people do not know about the purpose of this nut at the end of the axle.

How do I get the axles out of a Dodge Ram 1500 4WD?

Remove the hub/bearing assemblies and the axles will pull right out. 3 bolts (12 point bolts) hold each bearing to the knuckle, and the bearings may be frozen into the knuckles - this can be a problem and you may need the assistance of a pro if you can't get them out.

you need to pull off wheels, brakes, rotor /unit hub bearing, both axles and intermediate shaft, as well as the vac disconnec ton the front axle tube. if only the right side leaks then only then only pull the right axle and intermediate shaft and vac disco. it is a trick with a miller tool to replace the seal. the left side seal is inside the diff and the carrier has to come out to replace it. pete

Remove front axle from differential on 2003 dodge ram

That works fine on a relatively new vehicle but one that has run in salt etc you'll save a lot of time if you remove the steering knuckle completey by separating lower ball joint and outer tie rod end ball joint and bring the whole steering knuckle to a bench to separate the hub/bearing. Soak everything with penetrant, loosen the bolts a few turns and try hitting right on the bolt heads. I also made a very sharp wedge from a chisel and rammed it hard on the other side to seoarate the hub. It will finally come apart then you'll see all the **** that was binding it due to an alumininum knuckle re-acting with a steel hub. Clean the hole and grease everything and fit new bearings

Can not get hub or disc off of front axle to replace disc

You can try two options. First is beat it until it comes off, this usually leads to the hub assembly coming with it and pieces everywhere. Then you have to replace both. The other is to find a puller that attaches over the studs and presses in on the hub assembly at the same time. Be careful though there are two or four bolts on the back side that if not removed will also tear up the hub assembly. Either way after the first side you will have it figured out for the second. Don't forget to use plenty of PB blaster.
