Hi chazbike,
There might be millions of ways :)
DO NOT put high test in it!! and Good Luck to find 95 octane in the US short of an airport. High octane fuel burns slower and so less power and mileage!!
You have a VERY large difference in city and highway. First, evalutate your driving conditions. Heavy Foot? No..
Good, you must have a LOT of stop and go driving, can you find a route with less stops?
What rear axle ratio do you have? The numerically lower the slower the engine turns and better gas a point, then you pass the point, where your mileage gets worse due to engine lug.
Want to gently try? See if you can beg borrow or steal. (Kidding) a LITTLE larger set of tires for the rear and DO NOT engage 4x4 drive. See if it helps. Be aware though to try this, you must change the drive gear for your speedometer or at the end of the week or tank, calculate the difference in diameter and adjust the miles traveled to equalize.

Few other you may try :)
he cheapest way to increase gas milage besides what is already listed is to get a throttle body spacer, they cost around $50-$70 dpeneding on the seller, and it increases gas mileage by 2-3 mpg, it also increases hp and tq.

I hope this would help you.
Any further help, let me know.
Thanks for using Fixya.

How do you fix The code p01 71 in Dodge Dakota 2000 3.9 liter 6 cylinder

Your upper
O2 sensors are worn out. They are performing sluggishly due to age and the result is your computer sees it & you are getting lousy gas mileage. Right now only one is showing the other is soon to follow & the lowers with follow after that. Time to do maintenance.

2006 mazda mpv runs with a lot of hesitation while driving. Used spare key runs better but not perfect

Its most likely the spark plug ignition coil(s). There's six. These cars will run forever until they throw a code for which one(s). You'll see lousy gas mileage too. What you can try is drive at a steady speed up a long hill. It'll buck a little but it'll give you a code. #4,5 & 6 are in the front of the engine from passenger to driver's side. #1,2 & 3 are at the back of the engine from passenger to driver's side. They're about $50 each and mine usually go bad one at a time. I'm on my third round of replacing these things.

Van runs poorly, especially when cold. Sluggish low-end acceleration and lousy gas mileage.

-Check spark plug. May be it's too old or dirty of oil and carbon build up.

What is the difference between the V4 and V6 engine? Which kind of engine has better fuel consumption.

The letter is the engine configuration, the number is the number of cylinders.

V is a V shaped engine.
W is basically two Vs put together
I is inline
F or H is a flat/horizontal (used by Porsche and Subaru).

There are currently no V4 engines in cars. The Inline configuration greatly increases power over the V configuration, so for tiny engines Inlines are used.

V8= 8 cylinders... lot of power..lousy gas mileage
V6= 6 cylinders..not as much power as a V8 but better gas mileage..
V4= 4 cylinders...not as much power as a V8 or V6..but gets ALOT better mileage..

Hope this a little help for you...

I have a 1997 ford f-250 4x4 and its lousy on gas

You could fill the tires with Nitrogen but it will cost about $15 a tire. You will gain 1.5 - 2 miles more a gallon. Big trucks were made for pulling and hualing only. If your looking at gas mileage then you need a focus.

My 1993 chevy luminagets lousy gas mileage, when it runs you smell

. If you are in the car driving and smell fuel, chances are the leak in FRONT of you under the hood, probably being drawn in, by the heater or a/c. Open the hood and look for WETNESS. Don't see or smell it. Get UNDER the car ( safely ). Look around at the fuel lines. You'll find if you look. Hope this helps
