Question about 1993 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

1993 Dodge Intrepid needs starter & front brake pads

I'd like to know how difficult it is to replace these items & some "how to"; I'd prefer to do it myself depending on the difficulty.

It needs front brake pads for sure. I've done pads on my 1995 Sonoma & they were super-easy, but I don't know about the Intrepid. And I'd like to know how I can tell if the rotors need replacement--must I take them somewhere to be measured?

They have 2 engines. 1- a double overhead cam engine which looks really wide when you open the hood, and 2- one with small valve covers. Which one do you have? It isn't too difficult to change the starter, provided you have the tools, but the first thing the parts house is going to ask you is which engine that you have. They will also want a core charge for the starter. Rick

Ft brakes are easy as well. You have to remove the 2 caliper to steering knucle guide pin bolts on the caliper, swing it back and tie it up so that you can remove the rotor. Min thickness on the rotors is 22.4, but if you are changing pads, just go to the parts house & get new rotors as they are only about $18. here while turning is $10.
The 3.5 and 3.3 engines have different starters. They are attached to the engine near the transaxle by 3 bolts. Be sure to disconnect the battery before removal. Rick

2004 dodge intrepid front end noise

Without a description of the noise, this is impossible to diagnose. Common problem with these vehicles is a "grinding" type noise. This will be a bearing that has gone bad or brake pads that are beyond the service life (louder screeching or grinding upon braking). Popping noises are the CV drive axles are bad (noise is typically louder when when the vehicle is in motion and turning).

When you come to a stop. car squeaks. only after engine gets hot when cold does not. it is 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 engine. put new roaters and pads on front also checked back roaters and pads they are...

You will need to dig deeper. Check that the front and rear wheel bearings are smooth and tight, check each wheel for drag. pump the brake up and spin the wheel, one by one (how are they?). When you inspected the brakes what did the rotors look like? Were any of them blue in color? Did any of them have a ridge of rust on the outer and inner edge? Did you look at the old pads and see if they were waring evenly? Did the cylinder compress into the caliper easily? Did you inspect and service both sliders. Only use synthetic brake caliper lube, The non synthetic stuff doesn't last and never seize is a big no no. let me know, good luck.

Rear brakes grinding. intrepid

If you have rear disc brakes it is probably very low pads grinding on the rotor. If you have rear drums it is probably very low shoes. Now if you here it when your foot is off the brake then its a stuck caliper(needing replaced) for disc or a stuck piston (also needing replaced) for drums
