Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue
I have a 2001 Movano Van. Diesel. When I start it the engine has started to make a noise in time with the engine rhythm. It sounds like escaping air, a bit like when you inflate your types and when you remove the valve a fast 'ssshhhh' noise until the valve kicks in. I have checked oil and all other levels all okay, the noise seems to come from the top of the engine area. I have checked other tubes etc but nothing seems perished or leaking. There seems to be no difference in power when driving although not really pushed it incase I do damage.
Any suggestions / tests to try and diagnose would be helpful - pls not I am a non car mechaniky person -ie feedback in simple terms please ;-)

SOURCE: Turn key, nothing happens
It could be the park/neutral switch, next time it doesn't start try wiggling the shifter in park while turning the key, or shift to neutral and see if that will work. if that doesn't change the problem I would replace the ignition switch.

oil pan and sump damage are very likely to lead to oil distribution problems, this is not temporary, if you hear a knock have it checked by a local mechanic who can verify it for you, it is possible that the engine is damaged internally.

The rapping noise makes me think that it might be a broken belt or even the lifters. It could be even your fan. Check the blades to se if they are bent or broken.
