Left front sway bar has lost the lower bolt. Replace bolt & rubber or the whole thing?

Left front sway bar has lost bolt & rubber.Is it best to replace just the missing parts or replace the whole thing?

You can buy a kit with everything you need from any auto parts store. If you mean replace the sway bar its self no you do not, unless its broke or bent.

How hard is it to replace the front sway bar bushings on my 04 camry se


Here are general instructions for replacing this part.
Instructions
    • 1Park the vehicle on a paved level surface. Apply the parking brake and release the hood latch. Place a wheel chock behind of the rear tires and open the hood of the vehicle. This will help to allow some light down into the engine compartment for you when you're underneath it.
    • 2Lift the left front quarter of the vehicle with the floor jack and place a jack stand in a safe and secure location. A front frame rail would be ideal if applicable. Repeat this step for the right front quarter to elevate the front axle.
    • 3. Put on the safety glasses, grab the tools, replacement bushings, and creeper and crawl under the front of the vehicle.
    • 4Locate the sway bar bushings by following the sway bar from the links behind the front tire(s) to where it is mounted to the undercarriage of the car by a bracket. In some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove heat shield, brackets or other components to obtain access to the sway bar brackets for removal. If this is the case, remove anything to help you gain access. The brackets are mounted by one or two bolts. Sometimes the bolt may be steadied with a nut or sometimes it may be screwed into a fixed threaded hole in the undercarriage. Remove the bolts using the ratchet, socket and hand wrench if necessary. One bolt sway bar brackets will have a hinged top or bottom that you'd swing away once the single bolt was extracted.
    • 5Slide the old bushing along the sway bar to a location that's easy for you to extract it from the sway bar. Pry the slotted opening of the bushing using the pry bar to convince it off of the sway bar. The bushing are generally a rubber coated steel bushing so they're going to come off stubbornly. Place the new bushing onto the sway bar in the same fashion. Since they're new, they're going to be even more stubborn than the old one(s).
    • 6Position the bushing back in the correct location on the sway bar and replace the brackets. Tighten with the ratchet, socket and hand wrench as necessary.
    • 7Replace any components that you may have had to remove. Collect all the tools and debris from under the vehicle and crawl out. Lower the vehicle, close the hood, and remove the wheel chock.

Solid bar in front end, two bushings on either side of front tires is this the sway bar?


if you are talking about the sway bar end links. you can replace them yourself to save a few bucks. first Raise the front of the vehicle with a hydraulic jack. Place jack stands under the frame on each side of the vehicle. Lower the hydraulic jack so that the weight of the vehicle is supported by the jack stands and the front wheels are off the ground. locate the sway bar end links on either side of the front sway bar. Remove the bolts from each end of the sway bar end link. replace the bushings in the same order you take them off. you can go to any auto parts store and buy end links for your car.

Took my complete front axle out to replace cv joints and a rusted out lower suspension arm had new bushes pressed in to the axle mounting brackets.now on installing it back in i cant remember where the 4...


you are talking about the sway bar link. this also has a bolt and metal washers. i will show you a picture to make sure we are talking about the same thing, you will slide on a metal washer then a rubber one then in slides into arm from bottom or you can come down from the sway bar then slide another rubber washer and then a metal one next is a sleeve then a metal washer and then a rubber one, now it slides into control arm and then from bottom slide rubber then metal and the nut . hope this is helpful.johnjohn2_147.jpgjohnjohn2_174.gif

SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS. MAKE VECHICLE SITTING ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS , REMOVE HEAT SHIELD, IF EQUIPPED WITH 15 INCH WHEELS, REMOVE BALL JOINT CLAMP NUT, REMOVE SWAY BAR TO CONTROL ARM BOLTS, REMOVE STRUT CLEVIS FROM THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, REMOVE SWAY BAR TO CROSSMEMBER BOLTS LOOSEN THEM AND ROTATE THE SWAY BAR AWAY FROM THE CONTROL ARM, LOWER CONTROL ARM FROM STEERING KNUCKLE. REMOVE BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLTS. REMOVE CONTROL ARM. DURING INSTALLATION TORQUE LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLTS 120 FT LBS. How do you replace sway bars on a 1995 olds 88 royale?


you will need to disconnect the sway bar from the sway bar links(in most cases you might as well replace the links as well since they may snap while trying to remove them). You will then remove the sway bar bushing caps 2 bolts on each of the 2 caps and lower the sway bar. Is the bar cracked? should not require replacing if it isn't cracked. the rubber bushings and links do wear over time and yes the bar can crack.

Safety says i need sway bar bushings.what and where are these?


the sway bar is a bar that runs acrossed the front of the van from strut to strut. It is bolted to the cradel and then has links that run from the bar to the strut to increase stability. The sway bar bushings are rubber mounts that hold the bar down to the cradel. The bar runs though the mounts one each side where the bar and the cradel meet. If they are wore out you will normally hear a clucking noise from the front end when you hit bumps. To remove and replace them there is two bolts that hold a steel cap on top of them on each side. Remove the cap from both sides then the rubber mounts will have a split in them so you can get them off the bar. To install them is just the reverse of the removal. YES YOU CAN CHANGE THE BUSHINGS MOST OF THE TIME ALL YOU NEED IS WHAT THEY CALL SWAY BAR LINKS IT A LONG BOLT WITH RUBBER BUSHINGS ON IT

Replacing sway bar. cannot get new sway bar to propper position. how do i get it to fit propperly?


Your old sway bar made of tubular steel. New sway bar made from solid steel. You have a frame under engine the sway bar attaches too. This frame also supports your engine and trans mounts. Follow frame and there are 4 bolts securing same. Mechanic I watched supported engine underneath. Loosen back bolts though not removed. (please note sway bar has arrow that bar can only go in one direction) This maybe your problem. Attach bar to frame and fitting's. Best if you raise front end and remove both tires. Good luck

The front stabilizer shaft (sometimes called a sway bar) is mounted to the top rear of the frame and to the lower control arm. The shaft is attached to the frame with clamps and rubber insulators and to the control arms with insulator links.
