Hi! there,
well, possible cause engaging starter while
running there is a short circuit on your starting
system wiring.
check on ignition switch after starting and
engine run normally,possibility after
cranking and release the key run
engine normally there is short occurd on
solenoid relay.if defective replace this is
mounted separately from starter motor.
usually on near engine there a fuse and
relay box.

you mention you changed starter motor
and no change, there is starter solenoid
attached directly to starter motor
assembly this to move the plunger pinion
gear that will hook the flywheel to turn.
after cranking and normal engine run.after
that the plunger pinion gear will disengage
by the supply from solenoid relay.so you
must check your solenoid relay circuit.

have a nice day.dont gorget to rate me
thank's

Just to be sure. The starter gear moves up the shaft and spins. The flywheel is also spinning. So it is fast and because both gears are turning I am assuming they are engaging. Is this correct?

The starter gear engages the flywheel, yes. The flywheel is connected to crankshaft, so the engine--flywheel- starter drive gear spins. When you release key to run position, the starter disengages and hopefully the engine is running.

When testing starter out of truck works fine, put starter in truck and under load starter stays engaged, rip

Either the solenoid is getting power when it should not be, or the starter drive is not aligned with the flywheel.

WELL I JUST CANT GET THEE TRUCK TO CLICK OR TURN-OVER AT ALL AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW STARTER.

In the first place was the new starter tested before this was fitted. Secondly make sure before the new start was fitted that the STARTER SOLENOID WORKS, check the voltage and hear a healthy click.
Also make sure that the flywheel is not worn out and the starter pinion shoudl not JAM into the flywheel when the starter is engaged.
Once this is made sure then all what is needed is a good battery to make the starter do the rest.
Take time to test these points before the starter is fitted. Also the connections of the starter motor and the solenoid must be good. If the starter still fails to engage you might have to look carefully at the flywheel alignment.

Turn switch on and all the lights work but the starter wont engage

If the starter wont turn...Id check / replace starter solonoid.
If the starter turns but doesn't engage the flywheel...I'd check / replace the bendix.
If starter checks good and bendix is good...I'd look at the teeth on the flywheel.

Hope this helps...

Can A starter damage a flywheel or other parts of the engine? Heres the story. My wife was returning home from a trip out of town when our 1995 ford windstar made a loud pop. I inspected the vehicle and...

You need to make sure the starter is not staying engaged,if the starter is still turning, while the engine is running can damage the flywheel teeth.Look for a starter solenoid to be the problem,on the fender well.If the starter is not staying engaged, then the flywheel teeth are damaged on the flywheel.

Starter problem 1988 Jeep Wrangler

I sit here on this site and help people with their issues all the time, and I do it for free. I've been in the mechanics trade for over 24 years, and I think I have a good idea of what I'm talking about. I don't know it all, and I even need assistance from time to time. The only thing I ask in return for my help, is a good rating from the people I help. Once you replace your solenoid, your issue will be resolved. Yes the fix is that simple. Remember to disconnect the negative cable from the battery before you replace it, so you don't ground anything out.

Starter runs but won't engage flywheel

Hello, I would make sure that your car is not one of those half year cars becuase two differn't starters may be offered for the same year of car. Also, I would check and see if your battery has enough CCA's to power your system. The only other thing is to turn your crankshaft with a breaker bar to turn your flywheel to possibly get a fresh area of teeth on it. If none of this fails it's as simple as just replacing the flywheel. If you did a bench test on the starter and the bendix engaged that is good. Buying parts from an Auto parts store does not gurantee the part is good and that the bendix engages the full distance to turn the flywheel. I would try to find a mechanic who rebuilds starters to make sure that the bendix is engaging fully. I hope this helps you!

1992 jeep yj will not turn over

Try jumping the solenoid, pull the actuator wire off the solenoid(the small one)This will engage the starter so make sure your in nuetral or park, run a wire from the solenoid actuator to the positive battery post,if the starter engages your ignition switch or starter relay have become faulty,if the starter does'nt engage the solenoid has gone bad.Post back if you need more help.
