Hello there, i was wondering if your starter has a solenoid attached on top of it? if in which case it has, on the solenoid you'll possibly see 2 hex screws on the rear portion of the solenoid. a size 12mm hex screw. attached to one of the screw is a short wire guage 8 or guage 6 coming out of the starter. the other screw should be directly attached to the positive terminal of the battery using a heavy guage battery cable. a protruding terminal with a philipps screw or a terminal lug connector is for the starter switch. you could test you starter if you attach a guage 14 wire from that terminal lug and try to directly swipe it on the positive terminal of the battery. warning! this might produce sparks. keep flameable solvents, gasoline and other materials that might ignite away from your testing area. be careful, the heavy ampere output of the battery can burn cables instantly. so do try to keep the positive cables away from the body of the starter which is the negative side of your starter.

when replacing the starter was there an aluminum heat shield?
It would go between starter and the block. It may have been
discarded earlier and would solve the problem.

Car won't start without a jump but battery okay

wont crank or wont start.??
no car starts , if it cant crank. (unless push starter (M/T magic)
that is not a trans sensor its the PRN switch.
ill answer for, wont CRANK !
it wont crank even with a good battery (charged) or jump started.
1: bad start
2: bad wires to same.
so hot wire the starter small wire, the key start line is tiny.
cranks. , starter good, no crank starter bad or cables bad.
if it cranks hot wired, then the key line is dead.
easy, huh?

My car wont start even with a jump start anymore. we jumpped it and it started and we let it run for a bit then we turned it off and put a new thermostat on it after that it doesnt want to turn on at all....

You never jump a dead battery
Do you know how old it is or had it tested?

Have you considered a worn out starter

You may want to take the battery and starter
to the auto parts store and have them tested
then get back to us if still need help

My metro wont start at all with a new battery

I have had a similar problem which resulted from a worn starter motor. You say you put in a new battery not just charged the old one right? With my car, the engine would make a single click noise when i tried to start it. that was it. music played lights would go on but no engine. Check with your mechaninc if you think it might be the starter. I dont want you to buy a new one and realize your starter was not the problem

My truck wont start battery is brand new all gueges work when i turn the key but it wont crank?

If you look down where the starter is you will see al little round selinoid with to things sticking out that look like screws and have nuts and wires going to them. Take a good gauge wire and jump across them. If the starter does not kick in or spin over then your starter is bad. If it does kick over then there is a good chance that the ignition switch has gone bad.

My voyager wont start it seems the alarm has stuck on , when i turn key nothing new battery fitted ,led light for alarm does not flash anymore /gear/milage lights do not come on ,i have taken battery off...

This may sound a bit simple but check the starter solenoid function by running an external wire to the thin wire terminal from the positive post on the battery.

If the starter does nothing then the starter is bad.

What your describing is a typical solenoid / starter problem. Given the car is now 10 year old, it is quite possible that either the solenoid or starter has failed.

My gauges work but it wont turn over i dont hear any noise from the starter

Three possibilities I think:
First is weak battery. There may be enough juice to light the gauges but it takes power to turn an engine.

Second, bad solenoid. The solenoid is a relay which closes the high current circuit that delivers the cranking power to the starter motor. If you hear clicking in the engine compartment (not the starter) when you turn the ignition switch on it is probably the solenoid engaging and disengaging. However if the battery is weak it won't turn the starter motor. If the solenoid is clicking look at the battery first. The solenoid could be bad but the clicking indicates it's trying to work and there just may not be enough juice to turn over the engine.

Third possibility is the starter motor itself is dead. You have to answer some questions for yourself. Is this an old, neglected car or one that has been taken care of? I would be looking at battery. Can you jump start it? If yes then weak battery is the likely problem. If the car and battery are relatively new and in good condition you should suspect the charging system, that is, the alternator. Did this happen all of a sudden on a car that was running fine recently or has the car been sitting idle for weeks/months.Eliminate the easy stuff.
Clean battery terminals?
Good battery connections and ground?
Try jump start - if yes then follow up battery/charging system. If no start then try to hear for solenoid clicking. If jump start does nothing -figure the solenoid first. If it sounds like solenoid is kicking in but engine does not turn then the starter is looking a little guilty. Jump starting will answer a lot of questions. If the car is really dead then the car that is jumping may have to be connected and revved up a couple minutes to juice up the dead battery enough to turn the starter over. If it turns over a little during the jump start but just barely then you should figure your battery is bad.

If when you jump the starter with a screwdriver & it spins without engaging the flywheel - I would say with reasonable confidence that the starter is bad..

Hope this helps !!
Please rate me good ;o)
