I have a 99 Cadillac Deville with a NorthStar engine. I recently had a water pump, air intake gasket, and oil change done.  Prior to the work starting, the engine overheated, and stated, "0% Oil remaining; Idle Engine, STOP ENGINE".  When I drive now, my temp gauges are running at 215 (even higher if I have the A\C on or on the freeway). I just want to know what is the normal operating temp for a 99 Cadillac?

I have a 97 Cadillac Deville with a northstar engine and have replaced it twice so far, so i answer this by experience...i've noticed to my two prior engines that went bad that the normal temp should NOT EXCEED 228 (normal), the red overheating light will come on at 250 and at 260 it will beep and tell you to stop engine - idle engine and will begin to smoke (overheat).

I hope this helps you and anyone else...by the way if your asking why did i replace my engine twice is simply because my cadillac is super clean inside and out, immaculate condition.

Need to reset the oil life on my 1998 cadillac deville. The gas peddle thing did not work for some reason. Help

Press the information button as many times it takes to get the oil life to show up. Then hold down the reset button until the oil life changes to 100%. This may take at least 10 seconds or more.

Problem with overheating on 1996 Cadillac Deville with Northstar engine. The information screen read "engine overheating", "idle engine" and "change oil" all within one minute. Are these issues related...

The oil life resets to zero after the engine overheats. Check for external leaks first, make sure the water pump belt is still there and turning. The most likely cause if the car has over 70,000 miles is head gaskets.

My retired uncle has a 97 cadillac deville sts that runs well but after a short distance or time idling begins to overheat. He has replaced the water pump, thermostat and had the radiator and head gasket checked. Unfortunately he lives in a rural area and there is no local cadillac dealership for diagnostic repairs.
