Can you replace the leather gear lever cover on a vw polo please the original cover will not stay atatched

How do I remove peugeot 306 gear knob


If it's the original knob then you have to remove the gaiter housing (the leather thing around the stick for novices) as the knob extends to under the gaiter and no amount of pulling will remove it without doing this first. It's easy to remove just by lifting from the long edges first and it slips out. The gaiter is secured into the middle of the bottom of the knob by a zippy tie that you have to cut. You can then just pull the whole knob up with a little bit of force but it slips up revealing a white plastic shaft

My VW 1.4 automatic polo is not changing gears. its just stuck in gear 1 and consumes a lot of fuel.


If the engine light is blinking you have major issues with the vehicle. Have scanned at autozone or similar for codes this will give you a idea what is wrong. Then get back to me when you have codes

Fitting a leather gaiter on an x type jag


that is simple.

the shift knob is threaded on to the shift lever and you need to rotate it counterclockwise to remove. the gaiter is held in place with the trim ring that is attached by 4 clips in the corners. using a couple of popsicle sticks (or other thin, protected tool, so not to damage the wood trim, etc) you can get under the corner of the gaiter surround and gently pry upward. see illustration.

How to replace a gear lever leather boot on a Honda 2.2 crv 58 plate


First, unscrew the original gear knoband remove completely.

Next unclip the panel which covers the base of the gear knob. This unclips quite easily without the use of tools or screwdrivers. Pop it off from the top end first and then lifts out from the bottom.

Screw on the new gear knob. Once tightly fitting, put the gaiterover it.
Top Tip - use a cable tie to keep the new gaitor fitting snug! This stops it slipping down and looking saggy. Clip off the excess off the end of thecable tie.yannis-albums-new+gear+knob++gaiter-picture7966-tip-use-cable-tie-keep-new-gaitor-fitting-snug-audi-tt-leather-gaiter.jpg


Finally tuck the new gaiterin and ensure it is fitting snug. Then follow clip the plastic base cover back on. Sit back and look proudly at you new smart, quality gear knoband gaiter!

I bought new leather gear gaiter for my passat 2003 and i tried to replace it but it is difficult to unscrew the gear knob what i have to do can you tell me step by step


Pull up the leather boot at the console. It's just clipped in and can be pried up with your fingers. The boot is wrapped around a plastic ring that snaps into the console. Pull the boot up and get access to the bottom of the knob. You will have to pry open the one time use crimp ring with a small screwdriver or awl. Then pull off the knob. Use a small hose clamp as a replacement.

Hi Val,first of all the gearboxes for all vw are made in the same factory in germany and if one model of car was giving trouble the whole range would suffer.i.e.SEAT/SKODA/AUDI/VW.I have not heard of any specific cars giving trouble.but to answer your problem,get the linkage checked by a dealer as these tend to wear and a specific tool is required to set them up properly.and while they are under the car get them to change the oil for the gearbox.you do not need to get a NEW gearbox as a reconditioned one is MUCH cheaper.if you want to down that road.(you will still need to get the linkage set up).

more likely to be a worn baulk ring.do yourself a favour and rebuild the box,its so much easier and will last longer.to test,apply slight hand pressure to gearlever in drive and over run if it slips out......its time for a rebuild....

2003 VW Polo TDI 5speed - Sloppy gear lever/shift


It should feel pretty tight, but germans (vw audi bmw porsche mb) put a lot of rubber bits in the linkage and when the rubber wears out, there is more play. 
If you want to fix it yourself,  check with the folks at blauparts.com for parts and advise on this.  They have OEM VW and Audi parts and they run a first rate repair shop also.  They will be able to tell you what rubber shift linkage parts are available AND how hard they are to replace.
germanautoparts.com is good for parts also
Dealship is usually most expensive for OEM parts.
Good luck,  when you get the rubber stuff replaced, it should feel nice and tight
