I don't believe your particular vehicle's cooling system needs to be bled during coolant filling, but check the coolant level first. It seems that the coolant level is too low for the sensors to be able to sense the temperature, or the sensors are disconnected. Look for a connector on the intake manifold, near the coolant outlet. Ensure it is properly connected.

I have a 2000 plymouth voyager with the 3.0 ltr. If i am not mistaken the engines are the same, and if that being the case, the water pump is located behind the timing cover. It is also driven by the timing belt, so while in there making the repair to the water pump you should go ahead and throw a new timing belt on there.

Go to the autozone.com website and register. It's free and will give you access to an online repair manual. The steps for replacing the water pump can be found there. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Testimonial: "This is great information not only have you helped me with my current problem but, potential future problems as well. Thanks,"
Make a drawing of where the belt and pulleys are before you remove the belt. You won't need a diagram, you will have made your own and be done before you ever find one, unless you have a shop manual already.
