1988 454 efi timing and fuel prob??

I have a 1988 chevy 3500 454 efi I cant get timed right and it wont rev all the way up it breaks down when i hit the gas pedal at proper timing it wont rev up. at advanced timing it runs better but still boggs down when i hit the gas pedal I have replaced plugs cap rotor control mog can anyone help? I was told could be valve springs????

the cars come with many diff. engines. and EFI systems that match it.
so cant help you.
but ill answer in pure physics.
1: lost DC 12v power to the EFI system causing spark and fuel losses.
2: lost engine compression. 1 or more cylinders.
3: lost spark or never doing a full tuneup every 60k at least.
4: bad fueling, too much or too little.
what do do is a few simple tools to discover the truth.

???.. Have you tried a TINY amount of gas through the carb to see if it will start then? If it does.. you know its fuel/carb related. ( I don't care for starting fluid personally).. Did you accidentally hit the distributor (move it/break something) so the timing is very far off?

Cutting out at 3500 rpm


Check if the air filter is clogged with oil and dirt. Check the timing, then check that the cam belt has not slipped. Could be plug wires, but this will usually cause rough running as well. Could be low fuel pressure.

bad idle, and surges.
gets better, does that mean it idles at the correct regulated RPM
HOT? 800.?
and does the engine coolant hit 180 to 200 F and hold there.?
Sounds like the ISC valve is stuck open, clean it.
ISC means, idle speed controls.
also air leaks, vacuum leaks can do this on speed density, EFI.
Im not sure which EFI you have, too lazy to look that up.

which engine do you have, and what country, ?
as a mech, i open hood and look, on the net , i cant do that.
so.... no real help

Only has 2nd and third gear? and wont go past 3500 rpm dont know what it is


2 problems do not inter react , 2 and 3 gear relates to clutches or syncros or badly allined shift gear , 3500 revs points to gas problem of filter prob

I own a 2004 chevy silverodo 3500 it does not have a fuel filter how do I flush the lines.

Ok, there will be a fuel filter still but it sounds like it has the life-time, no need to change type. These are located inside the tank itself. Modern day (cars after 2001) use a pump & sender assembly unit. You can normally access these through an inspection plate of the floor pan directly above the tank. It will be an approx 6" round plastic cylinder assy containing the pump motor, sender for the gauge and a base filter sock. The issue you will have is when and if they block you are talking microscopic particals, you'll never know if you have cleaned it or not plus you can damage them easily.

BUT... I really think you are delving into this the wrong way. Unlikely to be a life-time filter failure unless the kids have put sand in the tank! Afterall, they are designed to last min 200000KM

You say it stalls on you & feels like fuel is now coming through so in other words, when it wants to stall even if you give it gas it wont rev up???
