Question about 1995 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

Transmission slipping in reverse.

When I put my 1995 Jimmy in reverse it slips when I try to back up faster than Idle speed. It will work better when I put in into 4 wheel dr. low but not like it should. Somtimes when I push the buttons to transfer from 2 wheel dr. into 4 wheel high and low, it takes some time to transfer. The forward works real good and transmission shifts through all grears fast and smooth, even overdrive without any slippage. Is my reverse bands going bad or could there be something else causing this problem. The Jimmy has a 124,000 miles on it and transmission oil does not smell burnt or scortched. Thank You for any help that you can offer.

slipping in reverse or no reverse are the death signs of any automatic, the rev clutch pack is worn out and the trans will need an overhauled.

I believe you have a slipping gears and looks like the gear box need overhauling. Take it to an Automatic Transmission Specialist to Diagnose.Do not leave it and use it any further, surely you will cause serious damage and cost.

My 1997 Jimmy runs fine in idle when I take off the vechile is fine until it reaches 20 mph it won't accelerate and the rpms increase up to 3000 but no speed. What's wrong it's a 4 wheel d

Sounds like 2nd gear in the transmission is slipping. Cars usually shift at 15-20 mph from first to 2nd. First check the trans fluid.

How do you adjust the shift cable on a 1995 gmc jimmy, wont go into reverse or park.

On the 1995 Jimmy, the shift cable can come loose on the mount on the side of the transmission where the cable meets the trans. When it slips, the alignment goes off and causes the driver to not be able to put the trans into park. If you take a long stick you can push the shift arm on the trans to the park position and your trans will go into park.....what you (and I) really need to know is how to take the shift cable mount apart and reset it.

Transmission on 1995 Buick Century, slipping badly

Sir I would first change my filter. When you do you should be able to acertain if anything is wrong by what yuo find in your pan. I think your clutchs are probably bad, but with out being able to scan it I don't have any other ideas. I have been lucky a couple of time before and changing the filter solved my problem. Your car is in limp mode generally you have reverse and second gear. 1st gear and reverse use the same clutches, so I am wondering if maybe you have second gear only!
