Question about 1994 Geo Prizm

1 Answer

Sometimes our 1994 geo prizm will start and sometimes not. we have to push start it and it starts right away, we have had the starter checked no problems, the alternator is good, could it be the switch for the clutch or the ignition switch maybe??? how can i tell which one it is.

Did you have the battery load tested?

Does it turn over when it won't start? If so I would look at the ignition switch next.

Need more information what has been added within the vehicle? If there has been a remote starter, aftermarket alarm or radio, that is where I would start looking. A 13 year old.vehicle could have any kind of things added to them.

Clicking sound when trying to start

A lot of times this is what happens with a low battery, loose bolts on the starter itself, or a bad throw out bearing on the starter. Have the battery and alternater checked at an autozone or o'reileys for free first because a starter can be a messy job.

94 geo prizm turn key nothing jump it nothing but have lights and everything

Check all of the fuses first, then try getting under the car and tapping the starter with a hammer several times, then try to start it again. If it starts, you'll want to replace the starter/solenoid (built together). You can also take the starter to a parts store to have the starter tested.

1994 Geo Prizm LSI running one day won't crank next day

turns over and crank are the same thing,
so you are saying it does crank over but no start, right?
you need to determine if you have at least 50psi of fuel pressure in fuel rail at reed valve.

Need to replace the starter on a 1994 Geo Prizm

starters are actually pretty easy. usually just 2 or 3 bolts holding it on. Just disconnect the battery first. Remove the bolts and the starter and then installation is reversal of removal.
Hope this helps,

Cranks sometime

You have burnt/pitted contacts in the starter solenoid, very common on Nippondenso starters, which the Geo uses. If you can get just the contacts rebuild it, otherwise replace the solenoid and or the starter, if you have really high miles it is better to replace the whole starter with a rebuilt unit from any quality rebuilder, Delco is a real good one, The best price I found was at Rockauto.com, $72.00 for a Delco rebuilt unit. Contacts are availiable from Ohiomotor.com
