Question about 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight
I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Coupe LXi 6 cylinder 3.0L. We start the engine fine, but after a few minutes of running the engine or driving, the engine shuts off. We can start the engine immediately and the same thing happens. The car has plenty of gas (and never ran out), the radio, wipers, etc. stay on. We just bought a brand new battery and negative cable to the ground. (should the cable have been connected to the engine instead of the car firewall) Any suggestions to the engine stopping and the battery?
It could be the inertia switch has malfunctioned. Try that first, it is cheaper. The inertia switch is basically a tool to keep your car safe in case of an accident. I am not sure where yours it. In my truck it is below the glove box, in my old car it was in the trunk. Try pressing it once and see if it starts, or hold it down and have someone start it. If that doesn't work, it could be the fuel pump is bad. Take it to a trustworthy mechanic, not the dealership or Pep Boys/Big O. The big companies just want to take all your money, trustworthy mechanics want repeat business, I have found.

Also check manifold vacuum at idle the best you can hold an idle. I have run into timing belt being one tooth off and engine still ran fine. But the vacuum was low that's how I could tell the belt was a tooth off.
