Question about 1995 Volkswagen Golf

98 VW Golf GL (Manual) Dash lights out!

My instrument cluster (Speedometer, RPM, Temp, Etc.) lights are out. All the instruments work...but my familiar green dash lights aren't working. All my center console lights are out as well (A/C, Air, Unlock/Lock) radio still works. All my exterior lights work, my overhead lights work, and my license plate lights are fine. Whats the deal? I've looked for a fuse diagram and cant find one online. Any suggestions? Please help!

As with everything else electrical check your fuses first. If you don't have a map of your fuse box just pull them out one at a time and check them.. blown ones will be easy to spot. If all the fuses are good, check the dimmer knob for your interior lights (roll it back and forth a few times) If the lights come on at one certain spot but go out again, it's the dimmer gone bad. If they don't come on at all pull the switch out and check for power with a test light. If power bad dimmer... if still no power bad headlight switch.... Hope this helps...;-)

Instrument cluster

Have you had it plugged into a diagnostic machine (PIWIS). First to read out fault codes and then to monitor live data from ecu to see if its sending rpm, speed, temp and fuel signals from sensors. If all this is been send to instrument cluster then looks like a cluster fault. Do the lights still work and do the rest of the illuminations come on when the lights are switched on?

Faulty instrument cluster. It will need to be replaced.I would check for any recalls because GM has had instrument cluster recalls in the past for this same problem.

98 VW Volkswagen GL, Dash lights out, not a bad fuse, dimmer, or light switch. Lights come back on periodically, but when I hit a bump, or if knock on the dash with my fist, they turn back off..What's...

The last time I fixed a problem like this it was a bad connection on the back of the instrument cluster. I found it by working in my garage in the dark. I removed the cluster and wiggled wires with the lights turned on, until I found the trouble spot. I then took a pencil eraser to connections in the area, then cleaned it with alcohol. Put it back together and all was well again. best of luck!

Remove the 5 mounting screws from the instrument cluster trim plate and remove the trim plate. Remove the 4 mounting screws from the instrument panel face plate and remove the face plate.Remove the instrument light grid from the center of the cluster. From behind the instrument cluster reach behind the speedometer and disconnect the speedometer cable by releasing the tab. Pull the cluster forward just enough to detach the "check engine" light bulb from the center of the cluster. Remove the instrument cluster from the dashboard.

Dash gauge's on 91 accord are not working rpm speedometer no others at all working what can i check

Hi, you can start by checking all the fuses in the fuse boxes as some of the systems in the vehicles are integrated and getting power supplies through different circuits. If all the fuses are fine you will have to make sure that there is a power supply to the correct connecting points on the cluster. If that is fine the cluster is faulty and should probably be replaced.
