Cable was just hanging loose off of battery. No bolt or nut with it. Could not see where it was mounted. Will look a little closer. If cant find will take your advice. Thanks.

Grounding point can be any chassis metal. Look for a bolt with a wire terminal dangling from it. Usually found under the battery tray - or less than 1 ft from the battery.

If you cannot find the old grounding lug - sand some paint off the nearest metal - drill a hole, and use a bolt/nut for a good connection.

It should bolt to the engine and or chassis, it should have a lug on the loose end, if it does not then look of the lug on the frame or side of the engine.
If the lug is missing and all you have is a bare wire end then the cable should be replaced.

How do I install the starter on a 1997 Murcury Mystique. I didn't take it foo but it needs to be installed.

Well Jerome,

That's a good name for a car in such a dilemma...
Mystique... 1997 (posted both 4 & 6 cylinder parts).

Since the lifting is the hard part... it would be better to take it to your cooperative PARTS HOUSE FOR TESTING..

you might GET to do everything at least twice (bad idea).

If you have the bolts.. the job gets a lot simpler.
Generally you have a Huge (POS +) wire that connects
from the battery DIRECTLY to the SOLENOID.

First thing:
You want to do is DISCONNECT the GROUND
at the BATTERY (NEGATIVE (-)) terminal.
(Always first off & last on... always... safety first).

Connect the "S" lead to the "S" terminal
(battery KEY switched ON only in START Position) ...

If you don't own (or want to buy) a manual
go to BBB Industries and register to use their
wiring DIAGRAMS & TSBs
(See very bottom: Technical Service Bulletins).

  4. Unplug the connectors and remove the cables from the alternator.

Click on the link for part of wiring diagram for your blower motor. The speed control is on ground side of blower motor. At the moment, I suspect a resistor problem. Replace resistor pack or do some testing, to verify.
