Are ignition keys grey in color?they have transponder in them..you may have a broken wire near sentry key module under column covers..is veh starting ok?this light usually indicates a fault in immobilizer system..a scan tool to retrieve fault codes from module would maybe shed some light on problem..get back to me

Does the theft light on the dash stop the truck from starting?

Depending on the vehicle the theft light may stop your truck from starting, if the key has a chip in it for security it may be the problem or your ignition switch possibly

Why is red light on top middle of dash blinking?

The red light you see is the indicator light for your security system/ PATS key showing it is active while vehicle is not running. should go out with key in and/ or turned on if the key is coded for your car.

My 2006 jeep commander will not start.

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

The van will start and run for about 2 seconds and quit i changed fuel pump, filter, distubitor, cam and crank sensors and module

Gm vehicles have been known to have faulty anti theft security systems. One of the symtoms of this is when your vehicle starts for 1-5 seconds and then stalls. A good way to know if this is the problem is when you see a light on the dash that says SECURITY. If you see this light flashing or on solid, this explains the van not starting. Driving down the road the car will shut off 1998 Olds Intrigue. Sometimes it will start right back up. Other times it has to set for awhile like to cool down or something. Other times it will not start...

Next time this happens, check to see if the SECURITY light shows up on the dash. The security that comes on that vehicle can actually kill the motor if its not comminicating properly.

If there is a light, check out this link http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Red vehicle light with key in middle flashing only when the car is off, when I put key in ignition it stops, what is this

This is your security light. When you lock your car you will see it stays solid and after about 30 seconds it will blink again. That means your alarm is armed on your car. When your car is off and it blinks that means it's ready to arm. Think of it like an alram in your home but it's in your car. But when your key is in the ignition the alarm is shut off until your key is taken out of the ignition. I hope this answers your question!!

1997 Mazda Miata button with red light lower left Dash

That toggle switch is for the security system. That year miata never came with any switches for the soft top of any kind. Most likely that is an aftermarket alarm system. Most factory alarm systems do not come with a toggle switch.

My 2000 Ford Taurus will not start because of the security system

the security system resets itself after about 15 minutes. If it was the security system, the car would not crank over. Why do you think it's the security system?
do you have gas in tank?

Is it a Ford security system, with the flashing light on the dash?

Principles of Operation
The PATS uses a specially encoded ignition key, this key is not compatible with previous vehicles or any current model year vehicles. Each specially encoded ignition key contains a permanently installed electronic device called a transponder. Each transponder contains a unique encrypted identification code out of over 18 billion, billion combinations.
Each encoded ignition key must be programmed into the vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) before it can be used to start the engine. There are special diagnostic repair procedures outlined in this manual that must be carried out if a new encoded ignition key is necessary.
This system contains a new feature named Unlimited Key Mode. This feature allows a customer to program more than eight keys to their vehicle if they request it. Each vehicle in Unlimited Key Mode is set up with a special Unlimited Transponder Security Key. This allows all the customer vehicles to share the same keys, but no other keys from outside can be used to operate the vehicles. For an individual customer, any randomly selected Security Key is acceptable. Refer to Key Programming—Unlimited Key Mode in this section.
The PATS transceiver module communicates with the encoded ignition key. The module is located behind the steering wheel column shroud and contains an antenna connected to a small electronics module. During each vehicle start sequence, the transceiver module reads the encoded ignition key identification code and sends data to the PCM.
The control functions are contained in the PCM. This module carries out all of the PATS functions, such as receiving the identification code from the encoded ignition key and controlling the engine enable. The PCM initiates the key interrogation sequence when the vehicle ignition switch is turned to RUN or START.
All elements of the PATS must be functional before the engine is allowed to start. If any of the components are not working correctly, the vehicle will not start.
The PATS uses a visual theft indicator. The indicator will prove out for three seconds when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START under normal operation. If there is a PATS problem, this indicator will either flash rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START. The PATS system also flashes the theft indicator every two seconds at ignition OFF to act as a visual deterrent.
The PATS will be activated and will disable the vehicle from starting if there is a:
  • improper encoded ignition key (example — Taurus/Sable key).
  • damaged encoded ignition key.
  • unprogrammed key.
  • non-encoded key (key has no electronics).
  • damaged wiring.
  • damaged transceiver.
