Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

Dash not working

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy 4 x 4. The front dash lights up but no RPM, Speed, Gas, Temp, or any lights upon startup. The Battery and Oil guage work though along with the Airbag light.

as far as we have checked, all fuses are good.

  • lesleym505 Apr 15, 2009

it flashed upon startup and then goes out.

do you have any issues with the tranny shifting? i have a similar problem with gauges flicking on and off except it messes up the shifting sequence.

    Is your SIR fuse ok?

I'll let you know what i find out.

    Best regards, Chad

The SIR fuse is located in the side dash compartment, drivers side. I believe it is # 14, i know that if it's blown or out the airbag light will stay on.

Why does my 1998 gmc jimmy rpm drop so low when its warm causing a miss in the engine

The truck ECM computer controls the idle speed based on a number of engine parameters. Idle drops to a minimum preset level when engine coolant reaches normal operating range and the engine goes into closed loop control. This idle is typically set at around 575 rpm, and cannot be changed without reprogramming the ECM. The miss is not caused by the idle speed - unless the engine is tuned properly and has not lost compression, this idle speed can result in a rough running engine at idle (typical with older 4.3L Vortec engines). Best bet is to get a complete tuneup which will include checking the O2 sensors, catalytic converter and cleaning the IAC valve and throttle body.

Temp and gas gauge doesn't work 1994 gmc jimmy

check the fuse block for a blown fuse, the one that controls dash gauges should be identified in the owner's manual.

I just got a new battery installed for my 1995 GMC Jimmy. Upon installation I discovered that my interior lights were on. I've tried installing another battery, checking the fuses, and checking the switch...

clean and lubricate the switches in the door jamb, and spray with lubricant the door latches-worst case just remove the bulbs until you can spend some time chasing it down, and just because, make certain you don't have the interior lights switched on at the dash (it happens)

1995 GMC Jimmy 3.5L HO - lots of engine clatter, very low oil pressure - 10-30 on dash gauge from idle to 3000 rpm, oil full. Oil pump problem or major repair??

if the noise is coming from the oil pan you may have bad rod bearings or main bearings or the oil pick up tube could have also came loose but since you have oil pressure im gonna say your looking at replacing or rebuilding the engine witch is a major repair.

97 blazer wont engage 4 wheel drive dash lights switch but no hi or low checked two fuses on panel inside door

3 button or 4 button. If 3 button remove the pass side kick panal and diconnect the module you see there with the key on. 3 or 4 button the trucks are known for water leaks and they fill the module(3 or 4 button module are in the same place) causing all kinds of problems. What has happened to my jimmy same year was the front diff actuator ( under the battery tray) was full of transmission oil. I worked at a gm dealer as a trans tech. The front diff actuator had blown a hole in it. I have to replaced the 4wd vac switch on top of the transfer case that was where I got the oil from, also the actuator and the vacume ball behind the abs motor pack as it to was full of oil. if lucky you will not have to change your hvac control head.

1998 gmc Jimmy command start not working

I would be willing to bet that the guy who was working on it shut your safety switch off, either intensionally or accidentally. It's usually a little toggle switch on the dash, by your left knee, but it could be under the hood. Contact the shop that worked on your truck, and ask if they shut it off. If it's not that, then it could also be the battery in your remote. However...I would think that to be quite a coincidence.
