SOURCE: Datsun stanza 1980 tappets (lifters)

This car has hydraulic lifters( tappets} therefore should not adjustment, you probably have a bad or weak lifter. But, in any case you have to remove the valve covers to make the adjustment. You will see the adjustable bolt on the rocker arm. rotate the engine until the valve is all the way to the top, [no tension on the valve spring] then place a feeler Gage in between the rocker arm and the valve stem, adjust the rocker arm until the feeler Gage is snug but not tight. Do this with each valve. Check the book for the correct Gage to use but I think it is a .018.

Check ignition coil, they are known to short circuit after a wash.
Try starting engine at night or in the dark and look around coil and leads for hi voltage sparks.

My 71 v12 etype is running lean on the left bank ( seen from drivers seat) carbs been rebuilt by Burlen. checked for obvious air leaks. carb on full adjust and its still lean. any ideas

If the carb job was successful, check the fuel supply, volume and pressure. For manifold air leaks.
Double check the carb job, check the fuel level, main jets size, clogs in the carb passages.

I have a 1982 Datsun pickup that sputters and stalls when I go over 35 mph or up a hill help please

This is a timing issue.. The age of the vehicle has also put a lot of miles on the timing for the ignition and possibly the physical timing. You are going to have to get new distributor parts

What adjustments are required on a Rochester quadrajet on a chevy 350 to compensate for performance issues while running ethanol?

You can run larger main(primary) jets. On the secondary side there are metering rods that can be replaced with smaller diameter ones. They can be identified by a letter stamped on them for size purposes. They hang from what's called a "yoke" which also can be changed out for a one that opens faster. You can play around with the secondary spring to have the upper secondary butterflies open earlier or later depending on your application. Q's are great carbs, but misunderstood. Parts are getting harder to find for them other than a rebuild kit. Good Luck. P.S. You will need to adjust your idle mixture screws of course(3 1/2 turns from seated is a base setting).

I have a 2002 yamaha kodiak 400. It wil idle, but when you give it throttle it dies, you can hold your hand partially over the intake and it will take the gas fine. What do I do?

Hi Rick

If old gas has may have always kept in the carb over the winter or over time gas turns to a varnish like gooing,, when not Eng not running for a long time,,, and it may have plugged you Idle jet inside under the bow... whats happening its starving for fuel and that jet is not letting enough fuel through the Idling circuit of your Carb,, and wont Idle so putting your hand over the carb you are getter more fuel through cold start jets and circuits or you may even have water and dirt in the jets and bowl check you fuel tank if it fresh fuel check your fuel filter replace it if you going to clean out carb always use fuel stabilizer in your fuel tank just incase you dont get to fire it up some seasons , one other thing look for any vacuum lines off or loose carb bolts and screws. Bottom line time to blow out the carb and even sock t carb cleaner if real bad but you need to remove all rubber parts from Carb I would leave it just take bowl off remove jet and look for small passage ways in the jets u need a real thin stiff wire like they use for weldig torch tips find one that fits.

Have a 90 corsica...fuel pump is fine...****** is fine but wont go over 35 mph...acts like its not getting enough fuel...please help

1st, try to ask a mechanic to check if the timing of your engine is correct. the timing might be a little "delayed" so the engine cannot work properly on high speeds.

is your engine still uses carburetor? if yes, replace the primary and secondary jetting of your carburetor. normally, the standard primary/secondary jets for a 1.6cc engine is 105/135.

if your engine already works on direct fuel injector, replace injectors with bigger size. go up 1 size at a time.

i believe the culprit here is the timing in your engine.

Where is the fuel pump at.1985 dodge ram 150 4x4

This truck is probably carberated, if I remember correctly the fuel pump is the drivers side of the engine. You can see it just forward of the carberator, it is secured to the cylinder head by two 12 mm bolts. It has one inlet hose and two that go to the carb...I hope this helps

Over flowing the secondary jet of my engine is 2e toyota.

Hi Vidsha, How do you know the secondary jet is over flowing? Your carb has two chokes or venturie....You'll see both when looking from the top of the unit....Do you mean that fuel is flooding from one of these?
If so the most likely cause will be found in the float chamber of the carb and this will mean stripping it....If no-one has tampered with it before, the float level setting will most likely not have moved, which means that in all likelyhood there's dirt causing the needle not to close against the seat correctly....I think before we go further, do you want to get into disassemling the carb, or would you prefer to take it to a shop....If you decide to go ahead youl need a carburator repair kit, which will be specific to your carb....Its a lot of work and you'll need to set up the carb properly afterwards....Re adjusting it and so on....Let me know what you decide....Regards Johngee
