Simple solution. take the panel off of your door, and look for the rod that connects directly to your outside door handle. 9 times out of 10, it came loose because it didn't get inserted properly into the cheap plastic hole which keeps the rod connected to the door handle.

How do you get the door panel off if the door can't be opened? I think the real question here is, how do you open the door when both handles inside and outside are broken?

SOURCE: replacing a outside door handle on 1995 hyundai accent

Hi

Please follow these steps :

1. Remove the 4 screws and the screw in the opening mechanism.
2. Remove the cap on the lock button.
3. Remove the mirror lever cap by pulling it straigt out. It is attached with one clip.
4. Remove the door crank by detaching the C-clip between the spacer and the door panel. It's tricky and somekind of hook could be useful.
5. Pull out the plastic clips. Be careful. I think a spatula could be a useful tool.
6. Move the panel forward and up to remove the opening mechanism from the door. Then pull the mechaninsm out from the panel, turn it and push it back through the panel.
7. At this point the panel should be removed and you can see the door speaker and the adaptor. As you can see the opening mechanism remains on the door.
To put the doorcrank back just put the pieces together in the picture and push it in position.

Good luck and Do rate the solution as FixYa if found useful.

Thanks
Rylee

SOURCE: Broken Hyundai 2002 Accent door handles

I had this exact same problem with my 2002 Accent. First the passenger side door failed, and then a couple days ago the driver side door failed as well. It's a small plastic part that snaps and can't be put back together with super glue (I tried). Found a website today called thepartsbin.com that had replacement handles (though they appear to be chrome only, and not the black plastic like the original). They were about $28 each, and $9 ground shipping. Was the cheapest of 3 different autopart websites that I looked at.
Getting the inside door cover off is a bit of a pain, but I am familiar with it since I had to take them off to install new speakers. Getting the door handle out itself is a whole nother pain in the ****. It definitely would require special tools, and it took two people to get the passenger side one out before. If you are so inclined, it's possible to fix yourself, but I would recommend buying the parts and then try to see if you can find an honest mechanic who can put them in for you. Dealerships will probably take you to the cleaners for 200-300 dollars easy with parts and labor.

Being a 2009 you might have to buy a new 1 at the dealer.unless you get lucky and find 1 in a junk yard.Alot of inner door handles can be changed by removing screw for trim on handle(usually in the center of handle, might have cover over it if so pop cover off to revael screw) and remove door rods off back of handle. If not you will need to remove door panel.

1999 Hyundia accent door handles won't work

Go to ebay I bought two new outer handles and two inners for my '97 accent. They are five bucks a piece you can't beat it and free shipping. Take the inner panel apart if you're going to change them yourself. You have the mirror guard that pops right off with a flathead screwdriver, then unscrew every philips-head bolt on the panel there should be roughly four screws. Then once you remove the panel, two 10 mm bolts for the handle which are inside the door are what hold the handle on. 2007 Hyundai Accent the driver side door won't open from the inside. It opens from the outside so I have to roll down the window and open the door before i shut the engine off.

Either the interior door handle or the cable inside the door is broken. You'll need to remove the door panel and look to see what is damaged.
