Question about 2003 Chevrolet Impala
The car does not turn over therefore will not start. In looking at the web there seem to be a lot of the same problems with multiple ideas of what the problem may be all with the same out come, the car has the same problem. The battery, starter, and alternator all check out to be fine. Some dealerships have determined the code says the ignition switch is bad but the exact problem returns in a short period of time. I am more than concerned about this problem as I bought the car new for my daughter, her husband, and my grandaughter. Now I have two grandaughters and the car is continueing to act up. Any ideas of what is going on?
If the issue is due to the Passlock Security System the 2003 Impala has a 3 step process to fix this but it drains your battery.
You must turn your key to crank the engine then leave it on the On position. Do not have the radio on just watch the message center for the security light to disappear once that happens turn the key to the off position without removing your key . Count to 5 then repeat the process.
after the 3rd time count to 5 then turn it and it should start. If the battery is too weak it will not work as this process drains the battery. Your best bet is to have a good battery or have another running car hooked up to yours in order to generate enough voltage when You try to start it.

Bad news, if the security light is on, the problem is most likely gm's notorious Passlock security system. The symptoms can include the car not starting when all other systems are okay, the radio showing "locked", power locks not working, clicking heard on right side of dash, insturment cluster going dead, and/or "high beam out" message on information center. I have not found a good fix for this but would be reluctant to replace lock cylinder and or body control module (BCM) as many have reported the problems return. If the car will not start, wait 10 minutes and the car should start. Good luck as I am looking for a fix as well.

Hi I had same problem with my 2003 impala and went to advance auto parts they told me it was air take valve or known as ERG> its about 168 bucks to replace and its only held down by two bolts. A cheaper method is to try and clean this with the cleaner you can get at any auto parts store. My check engine light came on and car wouldnt start right either. Its worth the try and in some cases like advance they may put new one on for you. Or if you have repair guide to car you can do it your self. Good luck and hope this helps
