SMOKING REALY BAD

REPLACED HEAD GASKET SET & VALVE SEALSAN STILL SMOKES BAD!!

    Hello,

First off, is the smoke black or white?

If it's black, you've got some major issues. When you replaced the gaskets, did you check the cylinder walls to see if there are any small grooves or scratches? Also, does it feel like it is loosing power or it just isn't as powerful?

If it's the cylinder walls, more than likely it's leaking oil inside the block. If it doesn't feel as powerful as it should, it's probably the valves being either bent or chipped. Either way, oil will still leak inside the block and exhaust manifold causing the smoke.

You need to replace your piston rings. Blow-by gases from the crankcase goes back with carryover oil to the combustion chamber through the PCV valve that's why you are burning oil and producing bluish smoke. Check if there's oil in the intake manifold.

I took my 97 Montero sport LS to the shop because I was told that my valve seals may be bad due to the smoke coming out of the tailpipe when i sit idle for a stop light or am in a drive thru. the shop says...

Because a head gasket are not valve seals. What color of smoke is coming out of your tail pipe? if it's burnt oil, have your valve seals replaced. Head gaskets seal the space between block and the cylinder head. I don't know why your head gasket was replaced when a shop told you your valve seals need to be replaced...makes no sense.

Just replaced valve cover gasket, plugs and plug wires. Now she smokes like crazy when she didn't before and sounds like running on 3 cylinders. Any ideas?

check to ensure that the plugs are torqued in to spec, the wires are completely snapped on and that you didnt put the wrong wires to the wrong plugs. thats for the 3 cyl's problem. as for the smoking, it could be the valve cover gasket because if its leaking, it will drop oil onto the sides of the engine which is way hotter than the oil normally is making it smoke. that would make it smoke out of the hood/eng compartment. if its smoking out of the exhaust pipe, then its probably a different problem

Suspect valve stem seal caused smoking after being idle, replaced head gasket set and p'rings,t'belt, plugs, oil & air filter as there was no service history at 66,000 miles. fired up fine...

If it only smokes after you crank it up and then stops after it warms up usually that is the valve seals letting oil leak down in the cylinder after you cut it off .

I found oil on 2 spark plugs telling me the head gasket is blown. Ive never replaced one before what can you tell me?

Oil on the plug does not indicate a head gasket.
It could be a bad ring, valve guide or valve seal.
A leak down test will comfirm a head gasket leak
A compresion test will confirm a ring problem.
Oil consumption and smoke indicate ring and valve problems.
If it smokes on stat up, most likely valve guide or seal.
If if smokes when you drive and let off the gas quickly from speed, then most likely a ring or cylinder wall problem.

Good Luck

Why does my honda accord smoke reel bad

This is either worn valve stem seals or worn out oil rings. Have someone follow you if the car smokes more as you release the throttle on deceleration it is most likely valve stem seal if it smokes more on acceleration it is worn oil piston rings. If the smoke is white you have a blown head gasket blue smoke means burning oil, black smoke means too rich (to much gas reaching motor)

Smoking realy bad ithink that it is valve seats.do you have to pull the heads

As far as the smoking, first what color is the smoke. If it is whitish then it most likely is oil smoke. If it is blackish it is excessive fuel (rich mixture).
Does it smoke all of the time? If it smokes mostly on accelleration then most likely the rings are bad. This can be checked out by completing a compression test, first dry then wet.
If it smokes mostly on decelleration then it most likely is the valve guides.
A valve seat that has gone bad (burnt) would not cause the vehicle to smoke, it would cause the vehicle to miss.
Yes, you have to remove the heads to service the valves.

2001 Volvo s40 oil leaking in turbo, smokes white smoke and turbo not kicking in. I have a new head, timing belt waterpump, oxygen sens. valve job, cam pulley all changed. It is still smoking and no turbo....

Water in combustion chamber makes white smoke--suspect that the head gasket is leaking water into the chamber. If oil leaking around turbo, it may have a bad bearing and bad oil seal. Check waste gate valve and control.

Smoking problems

when does it smoke at start up or when running. if at start only likely valve seals are bad and need to be replaced, if smoking all the time bad rings or head gasket, if black rings are bad if white check oil and if water in it (oil is milky) bad head gasket all of these are exspensive repairs from vlalve seals $400-500 to headgaskey $800 plus rings rebuild $2000 plus
