ok what about if the key ignition sometimes does not want to turn all the way back and refraims release of keys. I have to keep jiggling the gear shift, turning the wheel, and starting and cutting of the same 97 blazer. Is it something that is about to go bad that i might can catch before it becomes a higher cost. It just does it sometimes, but I know the gear is all the way in Park when i turn of my vehicle

This sounds very similar to a problem I had...after replacing the fuel pump, I still had the same problem. Turns out, there's a switch at the bottom of the steering collum that was messed up. It was about $300 to get fixed, but worth every penny!!

I had this problem too!! Only, it did get worse over time. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I would go ahead and get it checked out soon...can't hurt!! Sorry I wasn't more helpful!

Your fuel pressure problem turned out to be a bad switch on you steering collum? I have had the same problem from time to time with the key getting stuck, but don't see how this is related to the fuel pump/pressure. I am getting low pressure on mine with a new pump a month ago. Looking for anything that might be causing the problem other then the pump.

First check the fuel filter. It might be partially plugged . If the fuel lines and filter are fine then you might have a weak fuel pump

Car ran out of gas is there a fuse or relay switch?

Dose the fuel pump work inside your fuel tank you should hear a sound it might help if you get a friend to listen where the tank is while you turn the key to on but do not go to start it, if there is a sound it's working next you want to check the fuel filter best to replace it

2002 Sunfire with 2.2 ECOTEC Car acted like it ran out of gas. Would crank, run roughly a few seconds, then again acted like it ran out of gas. The next day and the next 3 days it has performed...

have the fuel pressure and volume tested with a gage.this sounds and acts like a fuel pump problem.check the fuel filter as well and replace anyways.when it won`t start but cranks can you hear the fuel pump running.listen at the fuel filler neck with the gas cap off.if you can`t listen under the car at the fuel tank you should hear it running/if not hit the gas tank and if the car starts then the pump needs replacing.you should check to make sure you are getting spark at the spark plugs to eliminate an ignition problem but i think its fuel.

Sometimes my 2000 chevy blazer will not start. If I hit the gas tank while it is being started it will sometimes start. I am wondering if this is a fuel pump problem or a fuel filter problem. It never...

Usually that is a bad fuel pump. Filter is not on the tank. Test it when it doesn't start, or listen, as when you first turn the key to "run", you should hear the fuel pump cycle.

Ran out of gas. Put gas in it started right up then after a few minuts it shut off. Put gas in carb it runs till gas is used up. Where is fuel filter and is the fule pump in gas tank?

Fuel filter is located on the inside frame rail under the drivers door and the fuel filter is located in the gas tank. Start with the simple and change the fuel filter first, but it is common for the fuel pump to burn out when the gas tank has run out of fuel, but since your engine started back up. Good chance that your fuel pump may still be good and your fuel filter may have pick up dirty from the bottom of the gas tank which is causing your engine not to get any fuel.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck

I ran out of gas in a 1997 Chevy Blazer, put gas in, but still won't start.

The fuel filter may be to dirty to let the gas flow through and will need to be replaced, or most common when you run out of gas is the fuel pump will burn it self out. The fuel in the tank will keep the fuel pump cooled and will keep it from burning out, if you ran it out of gas. The pump may have burn out and will need to be replaced. Check the fuse first and hope the fuse blown due to the extra amp drown from the pump running without fuel. If the fuse is good, then check to see if you can hear the fuel pump start up when you turn the ignition key to the run position. Note the fuel pump will only energize the fuel line for 5 seconds, so you need to listen for the pump to turn on right away. The other thing too, is you can check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 62 to 65 PSI when energizing the fuel line and will drop around 5 PSI when the engine is running. Make sure you do not try to start the engine by pouring gas down the throttle body, it been know for the gas to catch fire in the intake manifold and burn up the fuel injector system which is very costly. Start with the simple and check the fuses and fuel pump, then replace the fuel filter. At worst, your going to have to replace the fuel pump by dropping the gas tank and don't forget to replace the wire harness from the fuel pump to the frame. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to know you got your Blazer running again soon.

Sounds like water/debris in the gas tank. Try adding dry gas to the tank. Changing the fuel filter also a good idea.

I would check to be on the safe side the fuel filter is going in the right direction. The arrow is pointing towards the engine away from the fuel tank, Then you need to make sure the fuel pump wiring connections are good contact and did not come loose when driving.

Engine cuts out

Sounds like the PCV valve might be clogged and has created a vacuum within the fuel line. A new valve will cost you about $15.00 US and is easily replaced. You will find it on the top of the valve cover, depending on the engine model you have.

You should also check the fuel pump and verify that it too does not have a vacuum and therefore is not drawing gas from the tank. The fuel pump is located inside of the trunk. When you turn the key to the on position, have someone listen inside of the trunk for the faint sound of a motor come on. If you hear the pump engage, then you might have a blockage within the fuel line.

To fix a physical block in the fuel line you will need an air compressor and a blower nozzle that will fit inside of the fuel line. To blow the fuel lines out, begin by removing the fuel line from the fuel pump at the tank, then remove the line from the backside of the fuel filter. Place the end of the fuel line that was detached from the fuel pump into a large bucket and somehow tape it in place so that it will not blow out of the bucket when you go to blow it out. Now take the compressor air nozzle and insert it into the fuel line that you detached from the fuel filter and GENTLY begin blowing air into the line and have someone watch the other end in the bucket.

Once you have air flowing freely through the fuel line, reattach everything and fill the tank with fuel (if it's still empty) and try starting the engine again. If you still have the stalling problem, more than likely the fuel pump is shot and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps you out.

Cheers,

Keith
