Thumping in Transmision

In my 1995 Buick Century with 98,000 miles there is thumping in the transmission when the car is first started. After a few seconds (5 - 15 seconds) the noise goes away. The noise is timed with the engine....when I rev the engine the nosie will spead up. When car is strarted cold, first in the morning, I do not hear the noise. My mechanic said when touching the transmission while the car is running, she could feel this thumping. When driving the car it runs issues at all. Any ideas to what this thumping noise is caused from!

chev49....thank you for your helpful comment. I plan on driving it until it dies. As I only put on 6000 miles a year, maybe I will get a year before it dies. I don't think it worth putting $1600 to $2200 in a 1995 Century. Does that make sense to you!

    Best Regards................JLW

Could easily be torque converter internal broken part. This is a common problem. I would check the transmission oil filter and the pan to see if there are any metal filings anywhere. If so, you need new trans and torque converter. Rick

I have a 2000 Buick Century limited. While driving or turning either direction I can hear grinding. When making slow sharp turns either way can feel a thumping. What would it be?

Wheel bearing would be my guess , without hearing the noise ! CV joints make a clicking sound when turning , when bad ! Have it checked by a qualified repair shop before your wheel falls off .

What would cause the transmission to stop working

run the fault codes and check for a torque converter clutch solenoid /servo problem. Check for TCM problem. I suggest a change of fluid and filter clean and while the pan is off have the bands and clutch packs adjusted

Noise in left front wheel

Grinding noise, growling noise, thumping noise? Something else? If it's a grinding noise, more than likely it is during stops. In this case it is probably metal on metal in the brake pads. If it is a growling it can be in the wheel bearing or CV shaft which usually gets louder with turning or banking. Is it is a thumping can be from a tire issue, a strut, a sway bar link banging around etc. Need to clarify the noise and how you are hearing it.

I have 2004 Ford Explorer with a thumping feel and sound. When I drive over 50 mph and let it coast, the thumping starts. I feels as if it's coming from the back but not sure. The check engine light is...

if your lucky, its just a u-joint going out.

try replacing the u-joint which connects the driveshaft to the rear end(differrential), and if that does not solve it, then have your differrential checked out (a bad differential usually wont get all the power to the wheels that its supposed to) or just have it replaced, possibly with a junked differrential form a wrecked vehicle with low miles.

My car makes a big clunk when I am coming to a stop and engine shuts off , I have a 95 buick century with 70000 miles on it. it happens after the engine has been running over twenty minutes.

this sounds like the transmission locking torque converter clutch is not disengaging, this will kill the engine. This problem is most often caused by a defective TCC solenoid.

96 buick century makes thumping noise when higher rpm is reached

Sounds like a classic motor mount problem. Might want to get the dogbone strut checked as well.
