2005 chevy cobalt check engine light on

I recently bought an '05 Chevy cobalt. Today my vehicle was hit on the front left bumper. when i was hit the other vehicle was not going very fast and left just a dent on my bumper. After driving away I noticed my yellow check engine light turned on.

could this be a product of the accident? or just coincidence?

I went to advance auto and they pulled the check engine light code and they said it was just wet electrical equipment from all the rain we have had and that it would dry out in a couple of drives so they reset the code and told me to come back in if it comes back on.

215 is not overheating. Does it keep getting hotter the faster you go? Does it cool off when slowing down or at idle? Does the Fan clutch or electric fan come on? When the engine is this hot.
