Question about 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier
Just bought this car and it only starts periodically. I thought it was the battery but it is not. The starter was about to fall off and a mechanic fixed that and said he did not think I needed a new one. It doesn't appear to be the alternator and I have not been able to have an auto parts store run a check on the electric system because I don't want to get stuck somewhere, again.
What I did find though was a square socket type thing coming off some of the wires that go to the alternator which looked like it should be plugged into a square socket right in front of the battery. This "socket" looked all melted and someone had rigged an insallated wire between two of the slots, when I pulled off this wire, the radiator fan stopped, when I stuck them back in, it worked again. I don't know if this "socket" could be the problem or not???? The started doesn't click or make any weird noises and just starts fine, when it decides to start. Maybe it's the alternator??? Someone Please Help!! Thanks
I realized the problem I was having. I had sprained my left ankle and was not depressing the clutch enough at times. That was it, end of story.
