Overheating and lifter tapping

Ok I was asked to look at this BMW and what i came across was after starting the car, it has a very loud lifter or upper end knock or tap really. So I changed the oil, the lady said somebody just did this but added so oil additive like ( gumout ) or something to that effect. BMW recomends only synthetic oil they added nonsynthetic. The oilpump pumps at .5 psi " BMW specs" . so need information on changing the oil pump on one and where to find a diagram would be great 2000 323i motor. The overheating I think is the thermostat but I also needed the specs on that as well if you can hepl that would be great.

This engine is in a bad condition and the cylinder head will have to be remove and the lifter replaced. this engine overheated to far and when the cylinder head is off have the the head bolts threads replaced with hylicoils as this will pull out when installing the head.again

SOURCE: lifter noise

If the engine runs good and has high mileage, it might be the timing chain guides that are worn out

Noisy valve lifters

Hi, not sure from that end but how many km you have on that car, cose if it done 100,00.000-120,00.00 km You realy should pay attention or replace your timing belt, cos the noise you hearing could be from there not your valves, but if not changed in time the damage from that could escalate on that car to anywer $2-3 K, eazy. Anyway it just a thout 4 you. G/luck.

Loud lifter knock

Some vehicles have a tendency to start getting a lifter tap, when the engine's oil level comes down to the point where it is a quart or more low. I suggest you check the oil level, top it off if necessary, and check to see if it isn't due for an oil change. I would try the heaviest oil recommended for that vehicle..

1999 suburban lifer noise

if you have a stethascope or even a wood dowel i would check the lifters. if you have higher miles this sounds like a hydraulic lifter pumping up. if you change to a heavier oil it will go away or reduce. thats the cheap fix.

2006 BMW 3251 loud ticking sounds from engine

this is a very common issue with any of the bmws with n52 and n52k engine,as long as oil level is ok and is being changed regularly than than a "blleding proceedure" may solve this problem, when the engine has been running long enough that it is hot run the engine at idle to 4500 rpm for 10 to 12 min to start, if is still present after this attempt again. It has been said that this could take up to 30 min at longest. The reason for the ticking noise is a very tiny air gap in the hva and or lifters, try this and if does not work than the lifters should be replaced, although this noise doesnt really hinder the performance it does take away from driving such a nice car and having a loud noise come from the engine, good luck

I have 2001 bmw 740il and when i cold start my car in the morining, engine makes very loud roring sound and then calmes down.

This is due to a clogged oil pan filter and gunked up lifters. Remove oil pan and clean screen filter. Use and internal engine cleaning solution before your next few oil changes to clean valves and lifters.

1993 BMW 42m Tapping in Engine

sounds like a weak oil pump, but that could be indicative of a worn engine, i would replace the oli pump first to rule it out.

Loud tapping noise from 2005 grand prix 3800 engine

It could be you are low on oil;using the wrong oil;a possible loose connecting rod,or,maybe a bad or stuck lifter.
