When the engine is cold, it takes a lot of current to crank the engine over and this pulls the voltage down that is available to the fuel pump. The GM vortec injectors have poppet valves that are pressure activated. If they do not get full pressure, they just don't open even if the injector solenoid valves are being fired. The combination of reduced voltage at the pump and dirty injectors or possibly a pump that is getting weak will prevent the engine from starting
Gm released a bulletin describing a special injector cleaner for this problem, it goes in the gas tank. The idea was to clean the poppet valves so that they opened a little more easily. You could ask your dealer about this, or just try dumping a couple bottles of generic injector cleaner in with a fill up. If this doesn't help, you may have to replace the fuel pump.

Vehicle over heated now battery is dead

When the GMC overheats it goes into limp home mode. This is why the truck was running rough. The computer only allows the engine to run on three cylinders at a time, to allow the vehicle to continue driving without damage to the engine. If the temperature continues to increase then the computer will stop the engine from running at all. One gallon of fluid is plenty to allow the truck to overheat. As far as the battery it sounds like you need to have it charged. Get a load test on the battery and replace it if needed. Dont forget to check the alternator while your at it. A bad charging system could be the cause of a dead battery.

1997 jimmy won't start just clicking noise

It could be:1. the battery is flat, in which case recharge the battery OR jump start the vehicle OR, PROVIDED YOUR CAR DOES NOT HAVE AUTOMATIC GEARS, get somebody to push the car while the driver is in the driving seat and the car is in second gear and the ignition is turned on ---- ; OR2. there is a loose connection from the battery to the starter motor OR a loose connection between the battery and the earth (where the lead from the battery is connected to the body of the car) OR there is dirt at one of these connections which is inhibiting the current. Solution in these cases is to check the connections, clean them and reconnect.Best of luck!

My 2000 GMC Jimmy had brand new battery installed roughly a week ago. Attempted to run errands last evening and whole vehicle was dead: unable to use key fob to unlock doors, engine didn't even attempt to...

Does or did the check engine light ever come on durring all of this ? Or did the alternator light ever come on durring all of this? Jump starting another vehicle, damage to your battery I duoght it, damage to your Alternator and or other electrical componants highly possible if not connected properly. The new battery going dead again could cause all of the problems you have discribed for me. If I were you the first thing I would do is check the new battery and see if it has gon dead now. If so check to see if it is Frozen. If it is frozen you will half to replace it, because once a battery has frozen it will never hold a charge again.Once you have replaced the battery with a good known one (fully charged). Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature and then disconnect the battery if the engine keeps running then the Alternator is fine . If the engine stalls then you need a new Alternator.A bad Alternator could have ben the problem from the start.I also live in a cold climate zone ( RedDeer, Alberta, Canada).Good Luck and have a good XMSS.

you should check the voltage on your batttery when the car is running. If it reads about 13.5 to 14 volts, your alternator is doing it's job. If it's less, replace the alternator. If the alternator is ok, you have a power drain somewhere, you will need a proffesional to look at it.
