I assume you mean your serpentine belt. Change the belt, and while you are at it, make sure the adjuster screw is working correctly as they tend to gum up & give one the false impression that you have the belt all the way tight when it isn't.

Belt keep slipping off 2000 malibu chevy

Check the harmonic balancer. It's the pulley thats on the bottom of the engine in the center. Look at it with a flash light. The face of it should be flat, if it is coming apart you will see that where the belt rides has moved out away from the engine.

Passenger front window motor

remove the door panel. you probably need to remove the door handle and window controls first... look for screws and take them out. careful not to lose them. the door panel should be connected by snaps around the whole perimeter of the door, just pop these one at a time until the panel comes off. you should see the window motor and everything should be pretty obvious from there.

Need step-by-step instructions for installing a serpentine belt on a 6 cyl. 1997 Chevy Malibu.

The path should be listed under the hood on a decal, you will need a breakerbar and apropriate sized socket to compress the idler to put the belt over that pulley... just remember to put the breaker bar through the belt before compressing the idler assembly .

1997 Chevrolet Malibu

Dear veronicathom, Wed 2-11-2009 4:05pm EST (USA)

Please describe the whining....
Is it a squeaking noise?
Squeaking=Loose or Too Tight Belt!
Have the belt tightened or loosened or go to your local auto parts store and ask them to look at it. I like Advanced Auto Parts best for help. It may just need a little Belt Conditioner available at the parts store....if you do this please read can directions carefully first!

Is it a grinding whine?
If so please give as much detail as possible!

I need to go to my regular job now...will get back to you soon!
