Question about 2004 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Sticky clutch Ford Focus C-Max 5dr Hatch, Clutch not clearing quickly. Start engine, dip clutch, pause and engage reverse. gears clash, fading gently to silence.... engage and drive off normally, no sign of slipping. On move, low rev changes easily done, but more energetic accelleration causes sticky changes, mainly 2nd to 3rd. 'Pumping' of clutch pedal makes no difference.

2004 ford focus will not go in gear manual transmission

with engine shut OFF, try putting it in any gear. While leaving it in a gear, press the clutch all the way and turn the key to start ( do NOT hold key to start, but just for a moment). If the car jerks forward while starter is engaged, you have a clutch problem. If the engine turns over freely, you have a shifting linkage issue.

Went to select reverse and it will not drop in when engine running ..tried other gears and got the same problem...can select the gears when engine not running.....also pedal feels it has no resistance. ...

either clutch not clearing or the pressure plate has failed ,either way its gearbox out job as the slave cylinder is inside the bellhousing

Not sure if shifter is installed properly

Ok, I guess its going to be a not too obvious solution then. All we have to do is find it...
1.What type of gear shifter is in your truck. Column or tower
2. Is the tail shaft turning when you try to move the vehicle
3. Does the vehicle try to move at all
4. Is there any noise from the gearbox or clutch area
5. Are you certain the clutch kit was the right one
6. Did you try the clutch plate on the gearbox input shaft spline
7. Is the release bearing clear of the pressure plate fingers.
8. Does the release bearing carrier slide freely on the retainer on the front of the bearbox, and did you apply lubricant here.
