Replacing license plate lights on Chevy Trailblazer

I know this sounds like the old many___ you fill in the blank.. does it take to change a light bulb? I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer, and I can't remove the license plate lights. I removed the lense covers, picked up new bulbs (2825LL) from my local auto parts store, and compared them to what the dealer sells for twice as much. So, I have what should be the correct part, however what's in place appears to have a plastic base on the bulb, and the replacment doesn't. I have tried twisting out the bulbs, tried pulling straight out, all with no luck. So what's going on.

I just had the same problem. I took the cover off, saw the white bulb base, twisted it to take it out, but it popped back inside the door. I got it out, but it wouldn't pull through, so I twisted it back in place and went to Autozone to get new bulb. Once I saw the new bulb, it was obvious, just the bulb itself pulls out. There's so little room to work, I couldn't get it with just my fingers - - maybe rubber gloves would have worked, but I used pliers, lightly, wiggled it a little and it popped right out. I had a similar issue once with the taillight bulb and had to break the bulb and then grip the remaining filament wires with pliers to get it out, so that was my backup plan, just in case.

Hope this helps others.

License plate lights? Think those are 191's, and are standard wedge base. However the Tail lights are 3157's (rectangular plastic base). Those pull strait out. Takes a little force to do it. (replaced mine last week - 03 TB)

How do I change my rear License plate light bulb on my 1999 Plymouth Voyager minivan.

If it is not possible to take the lens off from the outside. (this is the normal way on most cars) Open the tailgate and remove the whole interior panel. Its not as hard as it sounds. This should allow access.

How to replace license plate light bulb for 2002 chevy trailblazer

Hello, If you look on the inside panel of the tailgate you'll see the lamp lens held in by 2 screws. Remove the 2 screws and then remove the lamp lens. Remove the bulb from the lens and install new bulb. Be sure to clean new bulb with clean cloth or paper towel to be sure there isn't any oil from your skin on the bulb. Replace lens assembly into tailgate. Reinstall 2 screws. Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless.

Check the ground. Sounds like that is the problem. You may need to add an additional ground wire from the light to the frame somewhere.

    License plate light replacement

The license plate lights are in the ledge above the license plate. 2 screws keep the lens cover in place. Remove the screws, and the cover comes off. Just pull the lamp out (wedge base) and replace.
