Question about 2000 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Ignition problem I have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE and something is wrong with the ignition. No matter which way the wheels are facing I still need to twist the key repeatedly over and over and pulling it out before I can finally get it started. Is there anything I can do other than get a new ignition?

Msaucier6, Does it not turn or does it turn and nothing happens? If it does not turn your ign lock cylinder is bad and needs to be replaced.

Guest with the comment..... You do not have the same problem. If your check engine light is on, get it scanned and tell us what the code it. Also work at posting a legible properly spelled comment so we can give you accurate information.

I read the check engin light on my 1993 toyota camry le and it gave me to codes: DTC:14 and DTC:26... What could be wrong with my car?

Code 14: Igniter circuit, probably a faulty igniter
Code 26: Fuel mixture too rich, possibly a faulty coolant temperature sensor, or faulty oxygen sensor

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry. The key is stuck in the lock position and won't turn, do I need a new ignition?

Try turning the steering wheel, fairly firmly, while trying the key. Sometimes a significant preload happens when the power assist is helping the wheel positioning, just prior to shutdown.

Check engine light does not go off

The check engine light is telling you the computer is detecting something wrong. You will need to connect a device which will read the code and tell you what the problem is. Your owner's manual will tell you the capacities of the systems of your particular vechicle, as well as the type of engine oil grade you should use.
