Question about 1998 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

Low pressure (oil) psi 0

After an alley mechanic so called tuned-up my Park Ave my oil light came on and started flashing. Also, it's reading low oil pressure (psi 0). Could it be the oil pressure sensor? If so, where is this sensor?

Need to know where the fuse is for oil sending unit on a 1998 Buick Park Avenue with a 3800 v6

There is no fuse for the oil sending unit ! Oil lite on , gauge not working ? Do you know what PCM five volt reference voltage is ? The PCM - engine computer supply's a stable 5 volt voltage to engine sensors . The oil pressure sensor is one of these sensors .
Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
The engine oil pressure sensor is a solid state transducer. The engine oil pressure sensor sends oil pressure information to the PCM. The PCM then transmits the oil pressure information to the IPC via serial data.
Engine oil pressure is displayed on the scan tool in volts. A low voltage reading indicates low oil pressure. As the oil pressure increases, the voltage level also increases. The normal range of the engine oil level sensor signal voltage is 0.5 volts at 0 kPa (0 psi) to 4.5 volts at 883 kPa (128 psi).

Getz 2009 model Compression test dry 1-0, 2-120, 3-170, 4-180 Wet 1-0, 2-240, 3-250, 4-250

not happy with the compression readings
adding a squirt of oil to seal off the rings will not increase the compression by 70 psi so too much oil was used for the wet test even the dry at 180 psi may not be correct as the compression of most cars is 165 max
no 1 with nothing is a valve problem because even with ring failure you will get a reading of some sort especially in the wet test
regardless if the readings can be believed , a variation of 10% is allowed so 3 & 4 would be acceptable but 2 is low against no 3
The head will have to come off and be machined flat and damage to the bores can be inspected while the head is off

1997buick park ave won't stop d inging when driving oil light flashes...check oil and it has oil...driving me crazy

Hello Robert, you could have a bad oil sender unit. Install an auxiliary oil pressure gauge to measure the amount of oil pressure. If reading is around 15 PSI or better at idle, change the oil sender unit.

Oil light comes on when the car is idleing or when I let off of the gas it blinks what could be the problem?

Low oil pressure maybe? Oil pressure will vary depending on engine speed-higher speed=more psi, lower speed=less psi. If there is a mechanical reason for low oil psi then idle is when it will be low enough to turn on or flicker the light. Also, you could very possabily have a slugged up oil pick-up screen.

Oil light flashing

oil light means loss of oil pressure.. not good ..check oil level fill to full if low..low oil pressure will cause fuel pump to be shut off..

Engine 3800 for 98 Park ave. shows oil pressure too high on the gauge. what could cause this

Sounds like your oil pressure sending unit is faulty! When you turn the key on, is the gauge reading low, then you start it and it pegs out? if so, the sending unit has failed.

Low oil pressure

If the engine is not making any noise. It is probably the oil sending unit that is defective. If you want to be sure you will have to install a pressure gauge and check the pressure when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature. If it is above 10 psi then replace the sending unit.It is located on the back of the motor on the block by the left cylinder head. You might need a special socket for it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

2004 Buick Park Ave, oil pressure sensor unit replaced, no oil pressure showing on readout only ????

put a mechanical gauge in place temporarily of the sending unit, the one by the passenger side c.v. axle and c if there pressure or not. if the motor is noisy then you dont have pressure either. dont run tow to mechanic, oil pumps are common to fail on first and secong generation 3800s. check oil too make sure its not foamy like a milkshake, this would mean coolant in oil which will cause low-no oil pressure. let me know what you find and i will advise from there
