By now you probably have the cam/timing belt changed on the vehicle... Here goes anyway: I changed the belt on my 1372cc (identical engine - except for the Turbo and a few odds & ends) just over a week ago by following this simple process:

Disconnect the battery negative terminal
Remove the timing belt cover
Loosen the alternator drive belt nut, tilt towards engine and remove the belt
Remove the crankshaft pulley nut (size 36) - do this by selecting top gear and have an assistant press hard on the brake pedal - remove the pulley -the timing belt is now exposed.
Using paint or tippex, simply mark the camshaft sprocket as it lies with the inside timing belt cover, do the same on the crankshaft sprocket & the auxiliary shaft sprocket.
Loosen the tensioner nut - remove the timing belt.
Check that all pulleys are still in alignment according to your markings and refit the new belt by starting on the crankshaft sprocket (the thin white line across the new belt must align with the factory marking on the crankshaft pulley) and over the auxiliary sprocket and finally over the camshaft sprocket - tension the belt with the tensioner and tighten the tensioner nut.
Rotate the engine clockwise by hand making sure the camshaft sprocket rotates twice, check the tension on the belt and make sure the tensioner nut is fully tightened and the belt is secure.
Refit the crankshaft pulley, making sure the nut is tightened and refit the alternator belt, timing cover and reconnect the battery.

The same procedure is applicable on the 999cc/1108cc FIRE models as well as the 1301cc Turbo.

Good luck.

The uno Turbo has marks on camshaft wheel and valvecover and marks on flywheel and gearbox and on some modells on the cranckpulley and housing. The Fiat uno is very simple in construction and don`t have something mysterious at all.

Hey again, when cylinder no.1 is at the compression stroke,( first cylinder is at the timingbelt end ), the mark on the camshaft drive-gear (small point or grind) must be alligned so it matches the mark on the valve cover behind ca 1 o`clock (same small dot or mark).

And to allign the crankshaft, there is a hole on top of the gearbox and a mark on the flywheel and the mark must be exactly in middle of hole (normally a small arrow in the hole) when the camshaft and crankshaft is alligned you change the tensioner wheel and put a new belt and tensioner, normally the belt has a arrow showing wich way it must stay, motor runs clockwise seen from beltside. i hope its satisfactory help. Belt must be renewed after 100T km

I have a Citroen Diesel ZX19 Turbo. It is Very hard to start when cold and takes a two or three goes to start when hot.I have replaced Glow plugs with Bosch ones from a Citroen dealer only a month ago plus...

Did the poor starting coincide with the cambelt change ,as it sounds like you may have a camshaft/fuel pump timing issue. If the pump/camshaft/crankshaft are not locked in place when you change the belt they can easily move a tooth or two.If the problem didnt coincide with the belt change then it might be a fuel problem.

Im changing the timimg belt for my 1995 impreza because it broke, i know that when you are about to change it you must put marks but since it broke. How doi pu the engine back on time

There should be marks on the cambelt itself that align with the gogs markings. Best to start at Top Dead Centre (TDC) If the belt has broken then if that has not done damage to the valves I'd be surprised. If it is a turbo then the valves do touch pistons when out of sync. I have no knowledge about non turbo cars but I think the engine configuration is similar . To be honest it is best to get someone who is familiar with the cars to do it. Especially if it is a turbo. It is one car that requires knowledge and experience to do this particular job. The Cambelt is very long , goes over 4 camshafts , water pump plus guides and crank pully ect. That all needs precise alignment. No errors are acceptable so it is up to you. Think about it and read up before you do it.
