Take a little bit of starting fluid and spray into the air cleaner and try starting it. if it fires this way you have a bad fuel pump. and also take the cap off and spin the motor over to see if the rotor is moving because i have seen the distributor shafts in these older trucks break off so they will not spin

Remove the gas cap, to let some air into the gas tank.
As the gasoline has been consumed, what's left behind
is a partial vacuum, making it difficult for the fuel-injection pump
to pull gasoline from the tank. Remove the gas cap,
to equalize the air pressure. Works for me (and my 2002 Taurus).

Remove the gas cap, to equalize the air-pressure.
The partial vacuum (no air got in to replace the gasoline that has been pumped out) leads to the lack of gas reaching the engine.
Works for my 2002 Taurus.

I have a 1993 dodge dakota that will not run when I put it in gear. If I let it set for awhile (2-3 hours) it will start right up and idle for as long as I want without missing but as soon as I put it into...

Check fuel filter, relay, fuel pump, sometimes the pump will run, but still too weak to run an engine at speed or underload. If fuel pressure checks out to be fine, look for a clogged catalytic converter.

Gauges won't work on a 1987 dodge dakota

Most cars have a voltage regulator behind the dashboard that supplies a stable voltage for the gauges. Have a look, if you follow the wires from the gauges you will probably find one wire from each gauge going to a small regulator box. If you cant get a new one an electronic technician can build one for you.

1990 dodge dakota with a 3.9l well die while in motion but dosen't do it all the time

The key is to figure out if you're losing spark, fuel, or both.Next time it quits, see if if you smell raw fuel at the tailpipe.(this would mean ignition issue). If not,you may be losing the crank signal. If it happens while your moving, you may be able to recreate it sitting still.Try starting it up and wiggling connectors, wires, etc. Also try thumping sensors lightly to see if this will make it happen(use a high tech tool, like an old mop handle!).This is simply a way of attempting to make the condition occur like it would over a bump or rough surface.I figured out an intermittent miss on a 2.0 liter Turbo Grand Am by doing this(several techs at several dealers had replaced an insane amount of stuff trying to fix it,including our own shop foreman!).All of that for a broken injector wire!

Truck stalls at 45 mph,gas runs out

sounds like the fuel pump is plugged up. measure the fuel pressure if you can. also would disconnect the fuel filter, and crank it for a few seconds ,draining the fuel into a clear container to see if it is contaminated.banging on the tank with a piece of wood may dislodge some stuff too.never run below 1/4 tank with an electric pump,as it uses the fuel to cool the pump.

Replace Blinker arm on 1987 Dodge Dakota

Sorry, when mine went out last year it was IMPOSSIBLE (2 Dodge dealerships, 2 different auto parts chains, and 3 repair shops) to find a replacement.

Had to replace the entire steering column from a junkyard.

Good luck!
