My oil pressure gauge goes all over the place and clicks with my turn signal I just put a new sending unit on it but still does it what could this be?

Well it could be the sending unit for the gauge.
But odds are the oil pump or engine bearings are worn out.
As the engine warms up, the metal spaces expand and the oil gets thinner. The oil pressure drops some under normal conditions, but not more than 10 or 15psi. Normal idle pressure with the engine warmed up is probably 25psi.
You could check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to make sure its not the sending unit.
Once the oil pressure starts staying below 20psi for long periods you'll start hearing noises.

Oil light came on and low oil pressure or no oil pressure. But oil level is fine. 2003 Chevy sierra


spend the 12 dollars and get a universal mechanical oil pressure gauge, remove the oil sending unit on truck and screw new gauge into and start truck. Does it read pressure? I know people will say just replace oil sending unit but i like to visually check for a true oil pressure than to trust a light, at least you will know what pressure your motor has. if you have pressure then replace the sending unit. Most of the time when the sending unit goes bad your oil pressure gauge in the truck will run at 80 psi all the time. Since you have a light the sending unit just says it isn't getting pressure which turns a light on. So be safe and do as i suggest, if there is no pressure at the mechanical gauge then i hate to say it but you may have a bad oil pump. I honestly just think you have a bad sending unit,if you want just replace it and if lights go off thats good, but you still don't know what the pressure is and if you feel comfortable with this then do so.

Oil pressure gauge all over the place . Goes from no pressure to normal randomly. No motor sounds and temp gauge appears to be normal.


Start by checking out what the sender looks like and its location, if you can't find a GMC or Chevy dealer either Autozone or Advance website has a page showing you where the part is located and what it looks like. Your problem is either the gauge, sending unit, or wiring harness. Sending unit is easier to rule out first. Pull the connector off the sending unit, spray some WD40 on the male and female connector parts and scrub gently with an old toothbrush and reassemble. If that did not help buy a new sending unit and replace it. Usually a deep socket is needed for this. If that does not work you are going to have to pull the instrument cluster and replace the gauge.

if your pressure is too low this fix is quite expensive and not worth for older cars, so the first thing you should try to keep it running is to use THICKER OIL (W20-50 or such), + oil stabilizier (any good oil additive). I tried it in my Jeep,- helped right away.. Good luck

Oil Pressure going up and down during acceleration and decel.


Check your oil level in the engine. Oil pressure will read this way when the oil level is getting low...

You need to find the ground wire that goes to your dash instrument panel. There is a ground wire that is lose or broken Make sure that all the ground wires are clean and tight.You could try to run a ground wire from your panel to a good ground place. ( This always don't work) but I have done it like this before and worked great. It is only a quick fix, It should be done right. But make sure that you have a really good ground on both the metal panel and metal on your firewall.

Mitsubishi 3000GT oil pressure


I had this problem on my gto i turned out it was the wire from the oil pressure sender unit , it was all corroded with oil and ready to snap off , try the wiring first and if its not that then the oil pump is on its way out.
